Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotional. Romans 12 is full of instruction on how to live a life of faith. When you surrender your life to Christ, you’re to function as one part of a body. There’s no more self-seeking. In today’s daily devotional, the way to please God is to give Him your life, be transformed by His Word, and walk by faith.
Become a Living Sacrifice
Paul begins in verse 1 with a word for the Roman church and all believers: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Paul strongly urges you to yield yourselves to the Master.
He pleads with you to become living sacrifices. Israel brought dead animals to the altar of sacrifice, but Paul reveals that your life is to be offered to God as a living sacrifice. In your daily devotional, forget pleasing others; you’re to be holy and acceptable to God.
Be Transformed By the Word
In verse 2, Paul urges you not to conform to the world, but to be transformed by renewing your mind. Conformity to the world isn’t an option when you desire to please God. James 4:4 says that “friendship of the world is enmity with God.” When you try to cling to the world, you invite what’s unaligned with God’s Word.
Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them through thy truth.” Sanctify means to be set apart as holy unto the Lord. You’re to be transformed from a carnal-minded person into a Christ-centered person by absorbing God’s Word daily. In this daily devotional, read and meditate on God’s Word, so your mind is renewed, transformed, and pleasing to Him.
Think Soberly
Paul warns them not to think too highly of themselves; pride and arrogance are temptations influenced by the world. You’re made in the likeness of God; therefore, you’re a free-thinking, intellectual being who can make your own decisions. If undisciplined, you’ll feel you’re in control, and the world feeds you with mottos like “do you” or “you’re the captain of your soul,” so you must surrender your life daily.
Paul says to think soberly, which is to walk in the wisdom of God’s Word. You should enjoy life, but reflect Christ wherever you go. In your daily devotional, God has given you a measure of faith to operate in the grace He’s given you to serve.
Know Your Function
In verse 4, Paul turns to the body of Christ, which has many members with different functions. In the body, gifts differ, but they’re to be without falsehood or evil doing. Paul lists the motivational gifts: prophecy, ministration, teaching, exhortation, administration, and showing mercy or kindness. Paul instructs how each gift is to be executed, for they’re graces given to operate in God’s calling.
He then instructs believers to love truly, hate evil, hold to what’s good, show brotherly kindness, prefer one another, and have fervency of spirit. In this daily devotional, know the gifts you’ve been graced with, and exercise them in faith.
You’re to Continue Walking By Faith
In Friday’s daily devotional, Paul continues with rejoicing in hope, being patient in trials, continuing in prayer, providing for the saints’ needs, and being hospitable. Believers should bless others, rejoice and weep with people, be mindful of others, be honest, and live peaceably with everyone. This list measures where you stand in obedience to God. In today’s daily devotional, live a sacrificial and transformative life as you walk by faith.
