Russell Brand appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London for a pre-trial hearing, days before his rape and sexual assault trial begins, according to Deadline.
The trial is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 12, and is anticipated to last around 10 to 12 weeks, according to Deadline.
What Happened At The Russell Brand Trial Hearing
Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court about an hour before his hearing, wearing a grey suit, white open shirt and sunglasses, and stayed silent as he was photographed by waiting press, according to Deadline. It marks one of the final steps before jurors hear the case against the comedian and actor.
Brand faces three rape counts, three sexual assault charges and one indecent assault allegation involving six women between 1999 and 2009, according to Deadline.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He remains on bail and has attended previous London hearings where he also entered not guilty pleas, according to Deadline.
What It Means
The case traces back more than two years, when detectives opened their investigation following a joint inquiry by Channel 4 and the Sunday Times, according to Deadline. That reporting preceded the criminal charges that now head to trial.
Brand built his career as a comedian and actor, appearing in films including “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to the Greek,” and was a regular presence on British television before the allegations surfaced, Deadline noted.
What’s Next
Barring delays, the trial is set to open at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, Oct. 12.
