Prime Video debuted first look images for “Bloodaxe,” a new Norse saga from Vikings creator Michael Hirst. The series follows Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) and his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Jessica Madsen), as they fight for the Norse throne while rivals and betrayals tear the land apart.
What The First Look Shows
The debut images introduce Xavier Molyneux as Erik Bloodaxe, one of the most famous Norse raiders. Jessica Madsen, known for her role in Bridgerton, plays Gunnhild. According to Variety, the story centers on their rise to power amid war, chaos and competing kings vying for control.
‘Bloodaxe’ Prime Video Release Date And Cast
All eight episodes will premiere on Prime Video in 2027; Prime Video has not yet announced a specific release date. The first season cast also includes Karlis Arnolds Avots (Kill Jackie), Levi Miller (Kraven the Hunter), Rod Hallett (Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes), Alina Tomnikov (Donna), Sisse Marie (Rebel Moon), Rune Temte (Eddie the Eagle) and Jesper Christensen (Spectre).
Michael Hirst and his son Horatio Hirst serve as showrunners, writers and executive producers. Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin also executive produce.
Why Fans Care
Michael Hirst created Vikings, which ran for six seasons and became a major hit for History Channel. “Bloodaxe” marks his return to the Norse saga genre for a premium streaming platform. The series has already been greenlit for a second season, which is currently in production in Ireland.
