Richard Gadd, Bill Camp and Ray McKinnon have joined the cast of “Rode to Ruin,” Michael Keaton’s upcoming western thriller, according to Variety. Keaton directs and stars in the Angel Studios release alongside Laura Linney and Morgan Freeman, and cameras are now rolling in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Chris Candy, Travis Hammer, Thom Rivera and Derek Hinkey also joined the cast.
Who Gadd plays
Gadd, the Emmy-winning creator and star of Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” will play Clive McKinney. Variety describes him as the “young, dangerous and charismatic” head of an outlaw gang. Clive is roaming the territory in pursuit of two things: a rumored fortune and the man who wrecked his family.
Camp (“The Queen’s Gambit”) and McKinnon, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind the short “The Accountant” and creator of “Rectify,” are also on board. Their roles haven’t been revealed.
The story so far
Written by R. Dean McCreary, “Rode to Ruin” follows retired U.S. marshal Henry Tillman (Keaton), whose 40-year search for his wife’s killer leads him to Joseph Mulberry (Freeman), an aging outlaw who is losing his memory. Linney plays Hedda Tessman, a frontier trader and the only person Mulberry has let close. The film marks Keaton and Freeman’s first time sharing the screen since 1988’s “Clean and Sober.”
Lori McCreary, Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn, Gary Lucchesi and Richard Gray are producing. The project comes from Revelations Entertainment, the company Freeman runs with McCreary, and Keaton’s George and Leona Productions.
What’s next
Angel Studios, which holds worldwide rights, plans to release “Rode to Ruin” in theaters in 2027. An exact date hasn’t been announced.
