Ubisoft Shutting Down Rainbow Six Mobile in January 2027

Ubisoft is shutting down Rainbow Six Mobile on Jan. 15, 2027, less than a year after the free-to-play game's global launch in February 2026.

Ubisoft Shutting Down Rainbow Six Mobile

Ubisoft announced it is shutting down Rainbow Six Mobile, with the free-to-play spinoff set to go dark less than a year after its full global release. The game will remain playable until Jan. 15, 2027, according to Polygon and Kotaku.

“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile,” Ubisoft said in a statement posted to the game’s official website, as reported by Polygon.

What Ubisoft Announced About The Rainbow Six Mobile Shutdown

The Rainbow Six Mobile shutdown date closes the book on a title that only reached a full international launch on Feb. 23, 2026, according to Kotaku. The game had entered beta in September 2022, according to Polygon, and GameSpot reported it soft-launched in 2023 before its worldwide rollout earlier this year.

Despite the short lifespan, the game had racked up millions of downloads across Android and iOS, Kotaku reported. Ubisoft said the next scheduled season of content will still release as planned in the week following the shutdown announcement, according to Polygon.

What It Means For Players And The Development Team

Ubisoft has not detailed what happens to player purchases, in-game currency or whether refunds will be offered before the game goes offline. The company said it will share more information on the game’s final days in the coming weeks, according to GameSpot. Ubisoft did credit the people who built the game and the community that played it.

“We are proud of the passion, creativity, and dedication our team has put into the game. One of the greatest parts of this adventure has been getting to experience it alongside you. We’ve loved seeing the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, impossible plays, and all the countless moments that happened because you were here,” the company said, according to GameSpot.

“We are truly grateful to everyone who has played our game,” a Ubisoft developer statement added, per GameSpot. Ubisoft said the Rainbow Six Mobile development team will move to other long-term strategic projects, though the company did not specify which ones, according to both Polygon and GameSpot.

Background On Rainbow Six Mobile

Rainbow Six Mobile was built as a mobile spinoff of Rainbow Six Siege, the tactical shooter Ubisoft released in December 2015 that has since grown to more than 70 million registered players, according to Polygon. The mobile version was designed for Android and iOS devices but drew mixed reactions from players. A Google Play Store reviewer cited by Kotaku criticized the mobile game for straying too far from the console and PC experience, pointing to limited operator choices and random team spawning. Kotaku also reported criticism of the free-to-play structure, which locked operators behind paywalls and was too grindy.

What’s Next

Players can continue accessing Rainbow Six Mobile until the shutdown date, with the next season still arriving on schedule before the game closes. Ubisoft said further details on the shutdown process, including the game’s final days, will follow in the coming weeks, according to GameSpot.
