Preload for Modern Warfare 4 began rolling out Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. PT, according to IGN. Players setting up preload can choose which content to install, including whether to download Warzone alongside the base game. The new version of Warzone will not be playable until the launch of Season 1, so installing it now does not grant early access to that mode.
On PC, Modern Warfare 4 requires 115GB of available SSD space. Minimum specs call for an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 processor paired with an AMD Radeon RX 470, Nvidia GeForce GTX 970/1060 or Intel Arc A580 graphics card. For 90 fps on high settings, Activision recommends an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700 CPU with an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Intel Arc B580 GPU.
What We Know About Modern Warfare 4’s Campaign
Developer Infinity Ward is treating the campaign’s story as closely guarded territory on its first day. The studio asked players to avoid posting spoilers while others work through it. “We’ve one ask.
Let everyone experience it for themselves. Keep the campaign spoilers under wraps. Time to go dark,” Infinity Ward said, according to GameSpot.
Activision has framed the campaign as the conclusion to the Modern Warfare storyline that began with the 2019 reboot. Tyler Bahl, Activision’s boss, described it as a turning point for the franchise. “It’s the epic conclusion of the recent series of Modern Warfare,” Bahl said, according to GameSpot.
“It’s not that some characters and pieces can’t live on beyond this and be reinvented. But we’re excited by closing this chapter and launching a new one. Where we go with future games, we have to innovate.”
Why It Matters
The staggered rollout gives preorder customers a full week of single-player access before multiplayer and the broader launch arrive on Oct. 23. That structure mirrors how Activision has handled recent Call of Duty campaigns, separating story content from competitive modes to spread out server demand and let fans finish the narrative before online matches dominate the conversation.

What’s Next
DMZ extraction mode opens for preorder players on Oct. 20. The full game, including multiplayer, launches across all platforms on Oct. 23, with the PC version unlocking at midnight local time. The new version of Warzone remains unavailable until Season 1 begins.
