The Day First Look: Minnie Driver’s Siege Has a Second Side

Paramount+ has released first-look images of Minnie Driver as hostage negotiator Sylvia “Vox” Voxley in the eight-part British heist thriller “The Day.” In one of the stills, reported by Deadline, Driver leans over a control-room desk as a bank siege plays out.

The series also stars Luca Pasqualino as Luke and Louisa Harland as Freya Hartley, according to the image captions. “The Day” is an adaptation of the 2018 Belgian series “De Dag,” created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu.

The Setup: A Robbery Already in Progress

It starts when police stumble onto a bank robbery mid-heist. The robbers barricade themselves inside, and a siege begins. Vox leads the negotiation, working to talk the situation down before it turns deadly.

The whole series covers a single day, but it doesn’t tell that day once. The first stretch follows the police side as Vox races the clock to save the hostages. Then the story rewinds and replays the same events from inside the bank, through the eyes of the robbers and the people they’re holding. Each episode flips perspective, building to a finale where the full picture comes together.

Release Details, Cast and Creative Team

Ben Harris and Jesse O’Mahoney wrote “The Day,” and Andy and Ryan Tohill co-direct. Dynamic Television and Clapperboard Studios co-produced and developed the series.

Paramount+ will premiere “The Day” in all territories where the streamer operates except Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Why Fans Should Care

The single-day setting and the siege give “The Day” a tighter, more contained framework than many procedural dramas, and the perspective flips mean every episode can reframe what viewers thought they saw. Fans of the Belgian original, which ran 12 episodes, will get to see how the English-language version trims it to eight and reshapes it around Driver, Pasqualino and Harland.

What’s Next

Paramount+ hasn’t announced a premiere date. A trailer and release timing should follow as the streamer gets closer to launch.
