Apple TV has set Jan. 29, 2027, as the premiere date for “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain,” the first fully authorized documentary about the legendary rock band, according to Deadline.
Frank Marshall directs the film, with The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures producing. It brings together Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and the late Christine McVie, the Grammy Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees behind the band’s best-known era.
“Fleetwood Mac: The Chain” release date and platform
- Title: “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain”
- Date: Friday, Jan. 29, 2027
- Platform: Apple TV (global premiere)
- Director: Frank Marshall

The documentary looks back on the band’s 50-plus-year run, which Apple traces to a fortuitous meeting in 1974. Fleetwood invited Buckingham to join at the end of that year, and Buckingham brought Nicks with him, completing the lineup with Fleetwood and the McVies that would go on to dominate the charts.
Apple’s official synopsis promises a journey through the band’s landmark albums and tours, built on new interviews and footage fans haven’t seen before. Christine McVie, who died in 2022, appears through archival material. Apple puts Fleetwood Mac’s sales at more than 220 million records worldwide.
What we know about the Fleetwood Mac documentary
The project is billed as the band’s first fully authorized documentary, giving Marshall and his production partners access to the group’s history as told by its own members. Apple has said the film will examine how the band’s turbulent personal lives, resilience and musicianship fed into songs that have outlasted the drama behind them.
The title is a nod to “The Chain,” the only song on 1977’s “Rumours” credited to all five members.
Why the Fleetwood Mac documentary release matters
Fleetwood Mac has built one of rock’s most enduring catalogs over five decades, and an authorized look at that run carries weight for fans who have followed the band’s lineup changes and chart success since the mid-1970s. The timing adds to it: the premiere arrives days before the 50th anniversary of “Rumours,” released Feb. 4, 1977.
Apple TV has built out a library of music documentaries and specials, and landing the first sanctioned project on a band with Fleetwood Mac’s sales history and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame pedigree adds a significant title to that slate.
“Fleetwood Mac: The Chain” debuts on Apple TV on Jan. 29, 2027.
