Justine Lupe will star in and executive produce “Settling,” a half-hour romantic comedy series in development at Amazon, Deadline reported. Will Gluck is attached to direct the project, which comes from creators Briana Pozner and Colin Lupe.
“Settling” puts two commitment-shy people on a collision course. Lupe plays Jessy, who has never seen much upside in settling down and treats commitment as something that boxes her in. Max feels the weight of it differently; for him, commitment mostly means pressure. The series is pitched as an opposites-attract comedy that asks whether a relationship can work simply because the two people can’t afford for it not to. Deadline did not name an actor for Max.
Lupe’s Dual Role as Star and Producer
Lupe will lead the cast as Jessy while also serving as an executive producer, giving her a hand in the project both in front of and behind the camera. She shares that credit with Pozner, Colin Lupe, Gluck and Madison Jones for Olive Bridge, Adam Londy for Tornante and Leigh Kittay. The role adds to a run of high-profile television work for the actor.
Lupe played Willa Ferreyra on HBO‘s “Succession” and plays Morgan on Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This,” a performance that earned her a 2026 Critics Choice Award nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy series.
Creators and How the Project Reached Amazon
Pozner wrote the pilot script for “Settling.” A writer and director, she is also a recent Black List x Women in Film Fellow. Pozner created the series alongside Colin Lupe.
Michael Eisner’s Tornante picked up the option on Pozner’s pilot first. The company then teamed with Olive Bridge, Gluck’s production company, and together they took the script to Amazon, which has optioned it for development. That path from option to production partnership to streamer is how “Settling” landed at Amazon, and it’s also how Gluck came aboard. Amazon declined to comment on the project.
Gluck’s Track Record in Comedy
Gluck directed “Anyone But You,” “Friends With Benefits” and “Easy A” and launched the “Peter Rabbit” franchise. His history with romantic comedy and broad studio comedy means “Settling” has a director who already knows how to make audiences root for a couple that shouldn’t work on paper.
What’s Next
“Settling” remains in development at Amazon, and no premiere date or timeline has been announced. There’s also no word yet on a pilot or series order. Further casting, including who will play Max, has not been announced.
