MSI 2026 Match Preview – LYON Versus FURIA: A Battle Between the Americas Giants
LYON and FURIA facing off in Round 1 of the MSI Bracket Stage felt like fate. FURIA tore through the other LCS teams when they played in the Americas Cup earlier this year. Many wondered if they could beat LYON. Now they get that opportunity. Getting off on the right foot is vital for both teams, as they will play Bilibili Gaming or T1 in the next round.
The Road to MSI
LYON were the second-best team in the LCS Spring Regular Season. Only Cloud9 finished ahead of them. The playoffs were a different story as they went undefeated to qualify as the LCS first seed. FURIA went on a similar journey, finishing second in the Regular Season and dominating the playoffs.
Featured Matchup

Inspired Versus Tatu
Two Junglers with very different playstyles, but both make a significant impact on their teams. Inspired is a slow and measured player, relying on natural resources to build leads. Tatu, on the other hand, wants to get in the enemy jungler’s face. He wants to take over both jungles with the help of Tutsz and Jojo. The styles of the junglers will clash, but will have an impact on the series result.
Can Saint Survive the Onslaught
FURIA’s Mid-Jungle of Tatu and Jojo will help Tutsz get leads in games. Their presence forces enemy mid laners to respect any pressure they provide. As a result, Tutsz can win his lane. Once Tutsz is unlocked on the map, he helps Tatu take over the enemy jungle. Saint will need to be ready to deal with the pressure from FURIA. With Inspired unlikely to cover him on timers, he might find himself alone. Fortunately, with the meta moving towards roaming supports, Isles will have more timers to help him fight back. If Saint can contend with Tutsz and his help, LYON will have a better chance of winning the series.
Can FURIA Defeat the First Seed
FURIA already defeated Cloud9 earlier this year. While they are not at the tournament, the way that FURIA won made everyone take notice. The next step for FURIA is to beat LYON on the international stage. They nearly took down G2 Esports last year, and have improved since then. Many do not expect FURIA to win the series, but they have it in them. They will need to find a way to break LYON’s methodical playstyle. They can not let them weather the storms throughout the game. If FURIA’s Jungle, Mid, and Support can connect on the map, they will have the advantage. With Inspired and Isles rarely connecting, they should have more players around the map.
Prediction

LYON 3-1 FURIA
FURIA’s Americas Cup performance was impressive, but given Cloud9’s implosion, they need to prove themselves. LYON is a step, both in playstyle and in experience. Inspired is not a Jungler that will give Tatu ways to take control of the map. While he is a more passive Jungler, he understands where he needs to be to build leads for himself. LYON will need to be on top of their game if they want to guarantee a victory in the series. If they miss the mark, FURIA could run away with another 3-0 win over an LCS team.
A Challenging Foe in The Next Round
Regardless of the other matches’ result, LYON and FURIA will face either Bilibili Gaming or T1. The winners and losers of each series will play against each other. The losers will have one more chance to stay alive at MSI. Ideally, neither team will want to face Bilibili Gaming or T1 in an elimination series.
