LCK 2026 Playoffs Gen.G Esports Versus Hanwha Life Esports Preview: A Chance To Build Momentum For the Final
Gen.G Esports and Hanwha Life Esports finished top two in the LCK Legend Group. They both won their Round 2 matchups. For the third year in a row, the two teams meet in the Upper Bracket Final of the Summer playoffs. Either team will want to win the series. The winner gains Right of Side and Pick selection for the Grand Finals and momentum for the final series.
Coming Off Different Wins
Gen.G and HLE had wildly different Round 2 experiences. Gen.G breezed past KT in a confident 3-0 victory. HLE had to go five games against T1 to get to this point. They were 2-0 down, but pulled off the reverse sweep. They got the win in the end, but it was more difficult than they wanted. HLE faced a more formidable opposition. KT barely put up a fight in their series, while T1 came out swinging. Keria had one of the best Blitzcrank performances of all time in game two.

Chovy Versus Zeka
Zeka was the X factor against T1. He struggled to get going in the first two games. But from then on, he dominated. His Akali took control of game three, earning multiple solo kills on Faker. His Cassiopeia was the win condition in game four. He was quieter on Taliyah, but the team did not need him. Chovy remains the lynchpin for Gen.G. Even when they struggled earlier in the year, Chovy maintained his performance. The two mid laners will battle to decide who is the best Korean mid laner for 2026.
Battling For First in the LCK
In previous years, Gen.G has stamped their authority. They were the de facto leader for many years. HLE has had their moments. 2026 was different. Gen.G started strong, but they fell off. All of the Legend Group teams were in the driver’s seat this year. Gen.G during the LCK Cup, KT in Round 1, HLE as the MSI winners, DK winning EWC, and T1 held first place in the Legend Group.
After the dust has settled, Gen.G and HLE are looking for first place. A victory in the Upper Bracket Final does not lock first place. They will need to win the Grand Final to earn that berth. However, a win in this series will give either team a leg up.
Drafting Success
Drafts have decided many series throughout the pro scene. Both teams have had their fair share of draft wins and losses this year. The two teams are close in skill level, meaning they need every advantage they can get. Either team might want to hide picks for later in the tournament.
However, we have seen many teams bring out new champions early in tournaments. It can add extra champions to consider for a ban phase in future matches. Both teams should put everything on the line to get the vital advantages. Top lane will be one of the more interesting drafts, as both Kiin and Zeus have pocket picks. Top lane has been the subject of many counter picks in 2026.
