Weekly Free Games on the Epic Games Store July 2 – July 9, 2026
It’s an interesting week for free games on the Epic Games Store. We have a very adult retro game based on a short story, a retro anime-style fighting game, and a sweet hidden objects game for mobile. We have the details so you can decide if these games are for you or if this week is a pass. My advice? Grab all the freebies!
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

Are you worried about AI supercomputers taking over the world and destroying humanity? Harlan Ellison had this thought back in the 1960s, and his short story, “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream,” was published in 1967. It won the Hugo Award and is still considered a terrifying tale. The game, which is free on the Epic Games Store this week, was apparently created with Ellison’s input, and he was the voice for the supercomputer, AM.
A supercomputer, called AM, gained sentience and killed all the humans except five people. Those people are physically trapped in the computer, which is massive and buried underground. It has kept them alive for over 100 years, torturing them with adventures based on their own weaknesses and fears. You’ll play as each of the characters, trying to outsmart the computer.
The game is normally $9.99 and was originally released in 2013. If you want to read the book that inspired the game, you’ll have a bit more of a hunt on your hands. But I did find copies available on various resales sites for a range of prices.

River City Girls 2

The folks at the Epic Games Store did well to follow a horror story with a brightly colored beat ’em up! This game includes six playable characters with their own moves, 40 shops for items and accessories, hireable “heavies” to fight alongside you, a day/night cycle, many NPCs, and comic book cut scenes. Whew! That’s a lot!
River City Girls 2 is normally $39.99, so this is a big savings. It was originally released in 2022.

Sophia the Traveler

Last up, we have Sophia the Traveler on the Epic Games Store for Mobile. This is a brand-new release as of July 2, 2026, and it hasn’t been released on PC yet, but it’s coming. In this cozy adventure, Sophia is traveling around Venice, and it’s your task to spot objects and characters in the hand-painted scenes.
The game includes 10 scenes, over 1,800 characters, animations, and sound effects. It has also been dubbed in multiple languages, including English, Italian, Mandarin, French, and more.

How to Claim Freebies From the Epic Games Store
Whether you want to play on your PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device (iOS is available only in the EU), you can find the download information on the Epic Games Store website. If you’re on a computer, you can download the Epic Games Launcher to access and play your games. I know that’s not exactly shocking, and you probably figured that out already.
For the mobile games, you’ll need the QR code. Use the camera on your mobile device to scan the QR code, which will direct you to the download page. You will have to enable downloads from other sources. (Other than the native app store, that is.) This app isn’t available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After installing the app, launch it, sign in, and then scroll down to find the current free game.
And that’s what we have for you this week! Check back next week, and we’ll highlight the new game offerings from the Epic Games Store. We’re staying on top of the latest gaming news, so you don’t have to worry about any FOMO.
Happy gaming!
