The LEC and LCS first seeds have rarely met in international events. Because of that, we do not have proof of which region is better. Fortunately, we have G2 Esports and Lyon playing each other in the MSI Lower Bracket Semi-Final. The winner will garner bragging rights and advance to the Lower Bracket Final. They will meet Hanwha Life Esports in that series for a chance to face Bilibili Gaming.

The Last Western Meeting

G2 Esports and LYON qualified for First Stand this year. However, the teams did not play each other. The last time the LEC and LCS first seed met was G2 and FlyQuest at the 2025 World Championship. G2 emerged 2-1 victors and advanced to the Bracket Stage. It is also the second meeting between the LEC and LCS at MSI. Team Liquid Alienware beat Karmine Corp 3-0 during the Play-Ins.

SkewMond Versus Inspired

Over the past year, debates regarding who is the best Western jungler have raged. Many gave the honor to Inspired. However, after SkewMond outperformed Canyon at First Stand, more people sided with him. It is the first time they have met since the World Championship series. Both players are vital to their teams’ success. Inspired may be more than SkewMond, but the French Jungler can not afford to let him play his game.

Bragging Rights on the Line

At every international event, EU and NA fans want to see their teams face off. The winner always earns bragging rights for their regions. At the moment, NA has the honors, after Team Liquid Alienware dismantled Karmine Corp. G2 can knock NA off its pedestal by beating LYON. With many saying the LEC is a one-team region, G2 holds the bragging rights. They are the most successful Western team in history. Not only are they the only team to have won an international title, but they usually perform the best. They made the First Stand Grand Final after defeating both FearX and Gen.G Esports. T

hey have already beaten Top Esports and T1 at MSI. Beating LYON should, in theory, be easier than those two teams. LYON has not performed the same against LPL or LCK teams this year. G2 is the type of team to play to the occasion. Against top teams, they step up, but they play worse versus weaker opponents. They can not afford to have that happen in this series.

Will BrokenBlade Continue His Form?

BrokenBlade was on another level in the series against T1. He used his counterpicks to take on Doran in the laning phase. If it were not for his Kled, G2 may not have won game four. Losing game four could have meant G2 got reverse swept by T1. Dhokla, on the other hand, has not been the same player we have seen on the international stage. He was better against Team Secret Whales, but still not at his best.

If BrokenBlade has the same form against a weakened Dhokla, G2 could run away with the series. Dhokla has done it before against G2. He was a part of the NRG roster that beat G2 2-0 in the 2023 World Championship Swiss Stage. He will need to summon that magic again.

Prediction

G2 Esports 3-1 LYON

Even before the T1 series, G2 would have been the favorites. However, the reason they won against T1 will not have as big of an advantage. T1’s lackluster drafting is not something LYON shares with the LCK second seed. However, LYON will not have the individual skill leverage that T1 had. G2 will have to worry about Berserker, who has shown up at MSI so far. If G2 play down to their opponents, they will have a problem beating LYON.

Only LCK and LPL Opposition Left

The winner of the series will have to get through an LCK and LPL team to win MSI. Their first opponent is Hanwha Life Esports, followed by Bilibili Gaming. G2 has played against HLE, and LYON faced BLG. Both series ended in 3-0 losses for the Western teams.
