Caps is Cemented as the Greatest Western Player After being the 3rd Hall of Legends Inductee
Riot Games began inducting members into the Hall of Legends two years ago. The first inductee was, of course, Lee “Faker” San-hyeok. The LPL Bot Laner, Jian “Uzi” Zi-hao, followed him into the Hall of Legends a year later. Now, it is a European player’s turn. Who else but Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther to become the first European Hall of Legends Inductee? The goat of Western League of Legends has by far the most titles and is one of five Western players to win an international trophy.
Why Caps?
Caps is the greatest Western player in the history of League of Legends. He follows after the greatest overall player and the greatest AD Carry, Faker and Uzi. Caps made his Tier 1 debut in 2016 with Fnatic. One of his first notable games was the Vayne mid against Misfits in the 2018 EU LCS Playoffs. The famous quote: “Dylan, we have to go Vayne” echoes throughout the community. After two years on Fnatic, winning two EU LCS titles, he moved over to G2 Esports. He has been with the organisation ever since, winning 15 LEC titles. Added to that trophy cabinet is one Mid-Season Invitational title.
He has won countless Finals MVPs. Caps has featured in two World Championship Grand Finals, unfortunately losing 3-0 in both. He lost with Fnatic against Invictus Gaming in 2018. He returned to the Grand Final the following year with G2 Esports, but met the same fate, losing to FunPlus Phoenix. He was also part of G2’s First Stand run earlier this year. They lost in the Grand Final to Bilibili Gaming. That run also saw them defeat both FearX and Gen.G Esports 3-0 on the path to the final.
After Uzi’s induction last year, many expected Caps to follow him this year. Those predictions have been proven correct, and there is no player left more deserving of being inducted than Caps.
Hall of Legends Details
Caps will be gifted the Hall of Legends Trophy at a ceremony in Berlin on August 18th. More information about the skins, in-game pass, and more will arrive on August 24th via the Hall of Legends Website. The in-game event will go live on September 10th for players to earn cosmetics and relive Caps’ best memories throughout his career. If Hall of Legends follows the same pattern, there will be two skins for Caps: a battle-pass exclusive skin and a custom-designed skin. The previous skins were:
- Faker – LeBlanc and Ahri
- Uzi – Vayne and Kai’Sa
There are reports and leaks that his’ custom-designed skin will be Tristana. Riot accidentally released the updated Summoner’s Rift that showed Tristana. We will wait until August 24th for confirmation on the skins. The custom-designed skin should have three variants, each escalating in price and design.
Not Finished Yet
Caps’ career is not over. For this year alone, he has two more titles to chase: LEC Summer and the World Championship. G2 and Caps have shown they can take down anyone in their path, and he will want to celebrate this crucial year with a World Championship title. Caps’ current contract ends in November of next year. Unless something drastically changes, we have at least one more year of the Western goat.
With him showing no signs of stopping, his stay on G2 Esports and in League of Legends will continue beyond that. Regardless of where his career takes him, He is one of the greatest players in the history of League of Legends. He is a deserving inductee into the Hall of Legends alongside Faker and Uzi.
