“Fallout” Season 3 Adds Thomasin McKenzie To The Video Game Adapted Series

"Fallout" Lucy (Ella Purnell) stands determinedly with a shotgun in front of a worn "Welcome to New Vegas" sign. Beside her is a rusty car, evoking a post-apocalyptic scene.

Prime Video has added Manny Jacinto, Emily Mortimer, and Thomasin McKenzie to the recurring cast of “Fallout” Season 3, and the series returns to Los Angeles this month to begin production. Season 3 will also build on the show’s runaway popularity, which has already topped 100 million viewers across its first two seasons.

Walton Goggins gave praise to the writers and directors of the show. Per Variety, he said, “We balance a lot of different tones in this. I still can’t believe Amazon’s letting us make this show at this scale, that’s batshit crazy!” Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean, spoke about Lucy’s lethal capabilities in Season 2 during a drug trip, which is a contrast to her resistance to violence and killing.

Per Deadline, she said, “I couldn’t believe it. I felt so scandalous. Coming from any other character, you’d be like, ‘Yeah, it’s just “Fallout,” but just something about it being Lucy, it feels scandalous. I couldn’t believe it. It’s like when your little sister goes out and gets a little wild, it’s crazy. It’s very fun to see that side of her, to play that side of her, and also, a new experience for me. I haven’t done that a lot in my career. I didn’t know how it was gonna turn out. It turned out good, thank God, I think.”

“Fallout:” What To Expect In Season 3

Fallout dramatizes life two centuries after a nuclear apocalypse, when sheltered survivors are forced back into an irradiated and often savage world. The series has been praised for blending dark comedy with violent, sometimes tender character work, and for expanding the game’s lore while carving its own narrative path. Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, and Aaron Moten are among the returning principals

Showrunners Geneva Robertson‑Dworet and Graham Wagner, who adapted the games for television, will return, with Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy among the executive producers. The production is a collaboration between Amazon, MGM Studios, Kilter Films, and Bethesda Game Studios, which retains creative involvement through executive producer Todd Howard.

New faces, old questions

The addition of Jacinto, Mortimer, and McKenzie deepens a cast that has already attracted high-profile names and critical attention. Jacinto has recently appeared in “The Acolyte” and “Freakier Friday” and will lend his voice to DreamWorks’ “Forgotten Island” later this year. Emily Mortimer, an actor‑writer‑director, has been in projects ranging from Jay Kelly to the BBC’s “The Pursuit of Love” and is in post‑production on her feature directorial debut, “Dennis.” Thomasin McKenzie brings a string of acclaimed film credits, including “Jojo Rabbit” and “Last Night in Soho.”

The show’s official social channels welcomed the newcomers, and Deadline first reported the casting. The television version of “Fallout” has become one of Prime Video’s flagship adaptations, surpassing 100 million viewers worldwide through the first 13 weeks of Season 2, a milestone that has helped the series attract bigger names and faster production turnarounds.

That popularity has also made the show a rare success story among video‑game adaptations, a genre that has often struggled to translate interactive worlds into compelling serialized drama. For fans, the casting raises immediate questions: Will these actors appear in flashbacks, present‑day storylines, or both? The series’ frequent time jumps and sprawling mythology mean new arrivals can surface in surprising ways, and the creative team has shown a willingness to reconfigure the game’s canon for dramatic effect.

Production For The Series

Filming in Los Angeles is expected to begin this month, with more casting and creative details likely to follow as production ramps up. No premiere date has been announced; industry observers have speculated Season 3 could arrive in mid‑to‑late 2027, depending on the production schedule and post-production demands.

Fans of the show and the games will be watching closely: Fallout has become a rare cultural bridge between a devoted gaming community and mainstream television audiences, and the new additions suggest the series will continue to expand its scope and its appetite for star power as it returns to the wasteland.
