'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 3 Is the End. Who Finishes It?

“Daredevil: Born Again” will end with its third season, expected to premiere next year, in 2027, though an official release date has not been announced yet. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the story, which Variety later verified. Marvel has not publicly commented. Charlie Cox debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Matt Murdock in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which was released in theaters on Dec. 17, 2021. Prior to his MCU appearances, Cox played the character and his crime-fighting alter ego in the original Netflix series, “Daredevil,” for three seasons.

The third and final season recently completed filming. The news also comes amid a major behind-the-scenes change and the show being in post-production. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has exited the project now that his contract has expired without renewal. “Daredevil: Born Again” is a continuation of the original Netflix series that ran from 2015 to 2018. The original “Daredevil” Netflix series premiered its first season on April 10, 2015, followed by its second season on March 18, 2016, and its third season on Oct. 19, 2018, before being canceled on Nov. 29, 2018.

The Disney+ version first aired on March 4, 2025. The second season of the series premiered a year later on March 24, 2026. Although Marvel isn’t abandoning television development entirely, the studio has reduced the number of series it produces for Disney+. Coming next is “VisionQuest,” starring Paul Bettany, the final entry in the “WandaVision” trilogy, scheduled to premiere on Oct. 14, 2026. “Wonder Man” was recently shelved despite initially being renewed for a second season, signaling Marvel’s shift in television strategy.

Production History of The Disney+ Series

“Daredevil: Born Again” was officially announced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2022. Originally, the series was scheduled to air on Disney+ in the spring of 2024. The plan was to air 18 episodes with Matt Corman and Chris Ord as the show’s head writers. They both planned to lean on stories that didn’t depend on everything that came before, and they wanted to breathe in light and pull back from the unrelenting darkness of the Netflix series.

However, production was suspended during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. The studio decided to do a creative reset during the strikes, parting ways with Corman and Ord and bringing in Scardapane, who worked on Marvel’s Netflix “Punisher” series, as the new showrunner for the Disney+ series. That wasn’t the only creative change. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on “Loki” and “Moon Knight,” joined as directors and executive producers. The shift in the episode structure meant carving up the 18-episode commitment. Season 1 aired nine episodes and Season 2 aired eight, totaling 17 episodes.

Two Stars Speak Out On The Series Ending

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Fisk, shared his thoughts on the news via X with the following statement: “We so enjoyed bringing @Daredevil Born Again to you all. You stuck with us, and I like to think we stuck with you. We have the final Season, season 3, heading your way next year with some very cool stuff. Much love to all who have been supportive. I love that character Fisk. Always will. Off to another neck off the woods. Meanwhile…Season 3 is coming.”

D’Onofrio’s co-star Deborah Ann Woll also weighed in on the news, sharing a sweet message with fans who have followed her character, Karen Page. She posted the following statement on her official Facebook page: “Enjoy the last season, guys! We worked really hard on it. Grateful for you.” Woll also added three emojis: a sad face and two red hearts. Woll also played Karen in Netflix’s “Daredevil” and “The Punisher,” and she returned as Karen in the Marvel Television special “The Punisher: One Last Kill.”

Where Season 2 Left Matt and Fisk

The second season delivered more intense plot developments. Fisk, who was elected mayor of New York in Season 1, tightened his grip on the city in Season 2. In the Season 2 finale, Matt publicly revealed his identity as Daredevil to save Karen Page and expose Fisk’s corruption. The finale, titled “The Southern Cross,” ended with Matt being imprisoned and Fisk going into exile. With the second season ending on a cliffhanger waiting to be resolved, the road ahead leads to one last ride in 2027.
