Kathryn Newton Confirms Return as Cassie Lang in Avengers: Doomsday

Kathryn Newton confirms return to MCU in Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel fans finally have another concrete piece of the puzzle for the next massive crossover event. Kathryn Newton just made it official: she is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise her role as Cassie Lang in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.

Following her superhero debut in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Newton’s return signals that the younger generation of heroes will play a crucial part in the battles ahead. Set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is already shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects in superhero cinema history.

Newton did not rely on a standard press release to share her exciting news. Instead, she took to Instagram to give fans a playful, behind-the-scenes peek at her return.

In a short video, Newton showed off a miniature director’s chair with her name printed on the back. This tiny chair serves as a clever nod to the official cast confirmation photos Marvel Studios recently rolled out. Of course, the size of the chair was no accident.

“And it’s tiny because Cassie Lang gets tiny,” Newton joked in the video. “She’s small, but sometimes she’s big. It depends what’s happening.”

After grabbing her signature Avengers cap off the tiny chair, the video shows her walking out of her trailer. A waiting team of hair and makeup artists immediately begins prepping her for her next scene. The candid, fun nature of the reveal perfectly matches the upbeat energy she brought to the role of Scott Lang’s daughter.

From Quantumania to Doomsday: Cassie’s MCU Journey

Cassie Lang has been a foundational part of the MCU since the very first Ant-Man film. We watched her grow from a wide-eyed kid who loved ugly stuffed bunnies into a brilliant, rebellious teenager who built a satellite to contact the Quantum Realm.

When Newton took over the role in Quantumania, Cassie fully stepped into her superhero persona. She donned her own suit, mastered the Pym particles, and fought alongside her father against Kang the Conqueror. Now, her involvement in Avengers: Doomsday carries significant weight.

She will be fighting alongside her father, with Paul Rudd officially confirmed to return as Scott Lang. The father-daughter dynamic has always been the emotional core of the Ant-Man franchise. Bringing that relationship into a massive Avengers-level threat raises the emotional stakes. Will Cassie finally take on the superhero mantle of Stature or Stinger from the comic books? This film might give her the perfect platform to fully come into her own.

A Massive Confirmed Cast for Avengers: Doomsday

You cannot have an Avengers movie without an enormous roster of heroes, and Doomsday is pulling out all the stops. Cassie and Scott Lang will share the screen with an unprecedented mix of new Avengers, returning veterans, and legacy Marvel characters.

The confirmed cast list is staggering. Alongside Robert Downey Jr., the core superhero lineup features:

  • The Fantastic Four: Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing)
  • Earth’s Mightiest: Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
  • Thunderbolts and Allies: Florence Pugh (Yelena), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon)
  • Wakandan and Talokanil Royalty: Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Tenoch Huerta (Namor)
  • Cosmic and Magic Heavyweights: Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry)

The Return of the Legacy X-Men

Perhaps the most surprising element of the Avengers: Doomsday cast is the heavy inclusion of legacy mutants. The film will bring back icons from the 20th Century Fox era of Marvel movies.

Fans can expect to see Patrick Stewart back as Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen returning as Magneto. They are joined by Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum reprising his fan-favorite role as Gambit.

What This Means for the MCU

With such an incredibly crowded roster, Avengers: Doomsday will need to balance intense action with meaningful character moments. Kathryn Newton’s confirmed role as Cassie Lang provides a grounded, human element amidst gods, mutants, and multiverse travelers.

As we inch closer to that December 2026 release date, the anticipation will only continue to build. Cassie Lang is officially back, and she is bringing her Pym particles to the biggest fight the multiverse has ever seen.
