Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | June 3, 2026

It’s Wednesday, and time for your daily devotional. In Matthew 13, Jesus tells seven parables to the multitudes, teaching them in stories what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. What a great opportunity to be personally taught by the Master. The multitudes didn’t realize the great privilege they had. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus proved He was the Messiah, yet many doubted, especially in His hometown.

Back to Nazareth

Verse 53 says when Jesus finished teaching them with parables, He left Capernaum and returned to Nazareth. Jesus’ love and natural affinity for His people brought Him back. He taught in the synagogues wherever He went, for the Spirit of God was upon Him, and He was anointed to preach the gospel.

Offering light to His people, He also taught in the synagogue in Nazareth. And they were astonished, not because of the power of His words but because they didn’t see Him as qualified. He had wisdom that they couldn’t attribute to any rabbinical source or temple training. In your daily devotional, don’t fail to see the power of God because man’s authority hasn’t sanctioned it.

They Rejected His Wisdom

Nazareth residents saw the power and authority Jesus demonstrated, but they were dismissive. They had seen Jesus grow up in Nazareth, a small, insignificant town in Galilee. They knew His family and background. Nazareth was a town filled with people of humble means. There were no famous prophets or theologians who hailed from there.

Jesus’s earthly father was a carpenter who’d taught the trade to Jesus. Instead of accepting Him, they rejected His wisdom, authority, and miraculous power. They questioned among themselves: “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary?” They knew His brothers and sisters, and said, “Whence then hath this man all these things?”

They considered His family common or insignificant; therefore, they saw Him as ordinary or home-grown. Therefore, they didn’t value Him or respect His power. In this daily devotional, people will try to define you based on what they know about you; however, you don’t have to convince anyone that you are who God called you to be.

Offended By Jesus

Verse 57 says that they were offended by Him. What a sad case to be offended by Jesus, who is the only hope of salvation. Jesus was the Light of the World; however, many rejected Him and were left in darkness. Nazareth was a Jewish town with a synagogue, so they considered themselves in covenant with God. Yet they failed to recognize God’s Son because He was too familiar. They didn’t conceive the Messiah could be one of them.

They refused to believe Him even for the works’ sake. In devaluing Jesus, they devalued themselves as well, thinking greatness couldn’t come from their ranks. Jesus proclaimed, “A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.” Their perceived familiarity caused them to miss their salvation. In today’s daily devotional, God may hide greatness in unsuspecting places. Jesus blended into a small town of 200-300 people until it was time for Him to be revealed.

Don’t Limit Jesus’ Work in Your Life

In Wednesday’s daily devotional, it was true that Jesus grew up among them, but rather than being a stumbling block, it could have transformed Nazareth into a place of spiritual power. Sadly, verse 58 says that their unbelief hindered the mighty works Jesus wanted to do there. In your daily devotional, don’t let doubt and unbelief limit Jesus’ work in your life. Renounce anything that hinders your faith in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
