Daily Devotional Tuesday Thoughts | May 12, 2026

In daily devotional, a man is reading the Bible using his fingers to follow along.

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotional. The goodness of God is amazing. Throughout history, He has been merciful and gracious toward mankind. However, because they do not understand God’s character, some people question His goodness toward them. In today’s daily devotional, know for certain that God is good.

He is God

God declares His love throughout Scripture. In Deuteronomy 7:9, He says, “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” You must first know God relationally and through His Word that reveals His righteous and Holy nature. In your daily devotional, you must see Him as the loving, faithful, and covenant-keeping God.

Know God’s Character

A question that has lingered throughout the ages is why do bad things happen to good people. When you know God’s character, you won’t lay any wrongdoing at His charge. The Bible proclaims God’s goodness toward us. But three things explain why bad things happen: the world, the flesh, and the devil.

When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, the world came under a curse. Although God instructed Adam not to eat of one tree, He didn’t obey. Therefore, sin was introduced into the world, bringing hardship, sorrow, and suffering. Adam took on a sin nature that passed down to every man.

In Romans 8:18, Paul says, “I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing.” Disobedience springs from a sinful nature, and sin comes with consequences. Finally, you have an enemy fighting against you. John 10:10 reveals his purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy. In this daily devotional, you must believe God’s love is unfailing, no matter what you experience in this life.

Align Your Life

Often, people question whether God is good based on what happens or doesn’t happen in their lives. However, God is much bigger than what you may face, so your focus must be on Him, not circumstances. The world, your flesh, and Satan will try to convince you that God isn’t good.

In Deuteronomy 7, Moses tells Israel they are to be holy and dedicated to the Lord. As they enter the land He has given them to possess, they are to drive out the nations there, not intermingle or intermarry with them.

When you become entangled with the world, you forget that God is good. In 7:7-8, Moses declares that God’s love, faithfulness, and deliverance redeemed them from Egypt. In your daily devotional, Psalm 100 heralds God’s goodness, along with His mercy and truth, reaching all generations.

Obeying God’s Laws

In Deuteronomy 28, obeying God’s laws powerfully impacts your life, bringing either blessings or curses. Those who walk in obedience will be blessed; Joseph rose to power, Daniel survived the lions’ den, and the three Hebrew boys walked through fire. Disobedience brings curses. Adam and Eve lost the Garden of Eden; trouble plagued David’s household, and Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt. In this daily devotional, determine to walk in obedience to God.

God’s Goodness Revealed to You

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, God tests your obedience and faithfully rewards you. For example, Abraham passed the test of obedience and was blessed with a ram in the bush. In today’s daily devotional, your obedience may not lead to a ram, but it will provoke God’s goodness. In your daily devotional, be faithful and obedient to God, and you, too, will reap God’s amazing goodness.
