Worlds 2026 G2 Esports Preview: Converting Hope to Success

The countdown to Worlds 2026 has begun. To start the hype for the international event, we are looking at every team in the tournament. No Western team has done better at international events than G2 Esports. Hope dwindled in past years, but 2026 has been different. G2 has beaten four Eastern teams this year, including T1 and Gen.G Esports. Even so, they have not won an international tournament. Will 2026 Worlds change that?

G2 Esports’ Roster

  • Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik – German Top Laner
  • Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan – French Jungler
  • Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther – Danish Mid Laner
  • Steven “Hans Sama” Liv – French Bot Laner
  • Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis – Greek Support

G2 is one of the few teams keeping the same roster for 2026. SkewMond and Labrov joined the core at the start of 2025. The roster has improved over time, with SkewMond and Labrov becoming vital pieces of the puzzle.

Two Years in the Making

Everyone questioned the signing of SkewMond and Labrov. The results increased the concern. G2 missed out on First Stand, losing to Karmine Corp in the Winter Finals. Spring was the same. They lost to Movistar KOI. Their MSI appearance was no better, as they lost 3-0 to FlyQuest in the Lower Bracket. The risk finally paid off in Summer. G2 won the Split and reached Worlds quarterfinals for the first time in five years. They have won every LEC split since, were runners-up at First Stand, and top four at MSI.

G2 is more lethal than we have seen them in recent years. The team does not rely on Caps. SkewMond, Hans Sama, and Labrov have all stepped up in big ways. Even BrokenBlade had his moments against T1. Caps is still Caps. It might be their best opportunity to lift the Summoner’s Cup again. The rest of the world is not as dominant as before. Perkz has also been a great addition to the coaching staff. He has brought the flair of 2019 drafts back to the roster. They have achieved great results so far, but without an international victory, no one will remember the 26 G2 roster.

Key Player – Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan

In previous years, Caps was always the key player. The recent Hall of Legends inductee is still vital to their success. However, SkewMond is the lynchpin against Eastern teams. He shut Canyon out at First Stand. He was instrumental in their reverse sweep over Top Esports at MSI. When SkewMond is cooking, they can beat anyone. Their worst international losses have come when SkewMond struggles. Bilibili Gaming tracked him throughout the First Stand series. Inspired got the better of SkewMond in the battle between the best Western junglers. He will need to find ways around these obstacles. If he does, they might be unstoppable.

G2 Esports Expectations

Anything short of the Bracket Stage is a disappointment. The roster has shown so much promise this year. There is no team they can not beat. Dominant wins over Gen.G Esports and T1 have shown that. They are 9-4 against LCK teams. Not even LPL teams have managed a record like that in recent years. 2026 might finally be the time that they return to the throne. It would be a perfect way to celebrate Caps’ induction into the Hall of Legends.

Swiss Stage Beginnings

As the LEC’s first seed, they will start the tournament in the Swiss Stage. They are in Pool 1 alongside Gen.G Esports, Anyone’s Legend, and the LCS first seed. They will face a Pool 4 team in Round 1.

Potential Opponents

They can face Dplus KIA, Invictus Gaming, CTBC Flying Oyster, and the Play-Ins Winner. If Karmine Corp wins the Play-Ins, they will not face them in Round 1.
