EA has confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 3 development is underway, with studios DICE and Respawn Entertainment collaborating on the long-rumored shooter. The confirmation came through a company letter about EA’s future plans, and multiple sources told Variety that the untitled project the letter referenced is indeed Battlefront 3.
EA executives Cam Weber, president and chief studios officer, and David Tinson, president and COO, confirmed the studio collaboration in the letter. They did not name the project directly. “In addition to our future Battlefield titles, we’ll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project that will help us achieve that ambition,” the executives said.
What EA Confirmed About Battlefront 3 Development

The announcement arrived as part of a broader letter addressing the direction of EA as a company, according to IGN. The letter itself stopped short of naming Star Wars Battlefront 3, but Variety reported that multiple sources identified the collaboration as that project.
DICE built the previous entry, Star Wars Battlefront 2, which launched nearly a decade ago. That game drew mixed reviews at launch over pay-to-win mechanics and limited character customization, though EA later reworked its systems through ongoing updates.
Respawn brings its own multiplayer pedigree to the project through Apex Legends, along with existing ties to the Star Wars universe via the Jedi series and Star Wars Zero Company. The studio is also currently developing Jedi 3, the next chapter in its Jedi game line, meaning Respawn is now working on two Star Wars projects at once.
What It Means For Fans
For fans who have spent years asking for a sequel, this marks the first time EA has acknowledged the project is real in any form. Star Wars Battlefront 3 has ranked among the most requested titles in gaming over the past decade, and pairing DICE’s shooter background with Respawn’s multiplayer experience from Apex Legends gives the project two studios with relevant track records.
EA has not shared what the game will look like, what platforms it will target or when it might release. No gameplay details, eras or features have been disclosed, and anything beyond the studio confirmation remains unknown for now.
Bungie Rumors Addressed
The confirmation also pushes back on separate rumors that Bungie had a hand in Battlefront 3 or another Star Wars project. Those reports were not confirmed, and sourcing cited by Polygon indicates the DICE and Respawn announcement effectively debunks the Bungie speculation.
What’s Next
EA has not announced a release date, platform lineup or reveal event for Star Wars Battlefront 3. Until the publisher shares more, details about the game’s scope, setting and timeline remain unconfirmed.
