In October, Nintendo Switch Online focused on handheld consoles for their Nintendo Classics retro collections. They added three titles for the original Game Boy and three for the Game Boy Advance, meaning there were a lot of new titles to choose from in October. So, what were the best games? Are any of them good? Let’s find out.
Nintendo Switch Online Additions for October 2026
First of all, let’s look at the three Game Boy Advance games that were added.
Kururin Paradise
In this Game Boy Advance sequel to Kuru Kuru Kuruin, you once again go on a quest in a constantly spinning helicopter through tight corridors, trying not to crash into walls. There is also a new minigame mode. It’s still as addictive as the first game, which is one of the best Game Boy Advance games ever. However, this sequel was only released in Japan, and Nintendo Switch Online didn’t translate it, meaning there are some menus of Japanese text to get through. Still, don’t let that dissuade you from trying this game.
Metal Slug Advance
In this Game Boy Advance version of the classic SNK arcade game series, you pick a soldier and storm into a battleground full of chaos. The run-and-gun action is full of adrenaline-pumping action, but don’t forget to save the hostages while you’re gunning down enemies. This game is a lot of fun, and it’s super-addictive. If you enjoy run-and-gun games like Contra, you should definitely check this game out.
Monster Hunter Advance
This is a more complex Game Boy Advance game that involves raising monsters and training them for battle. You can generate monsters by choosing words and seeing what kind of monster you get. You feed your monsters, train them, and enter them in battle tournaments for money. No, it’s not the same as Pokémon. While the game seemed a bit repetitive at the beginning, eventually I got into raising my monsters.
Now let’s look at the original Game Boy games that Nintendo Switch Online added.
Avenging Spirit
This Game Boy game is a great Halloween title. You play as a ghost working for a scientist who is using the ghost to locate his kidnapped daughter. The game plays as a fairly typical side-scrolling platformer, but there’s a twist. The ghost can possess enemies and take on their abilities. When you begin a stage or lose a life, you choose an enemy to possess, and they have different abilities such as shooting or jumping higher. This makes the game more engaging.
Mole Mania
Now this is a masterpiece of a Game Boy title. You’re a mole whose family has been kidnapped, so you have to go rescue them. Since you’re a mole, you can tunnel through the top-down levels to reach new areas, which adds a puzzle-solving element to this adventure game. You’re also quite strong for a little guy, since you can throw large balls. The game starts out simple, but it quickly gets challenging. I will definitely continue playing this one.
Revenge of the Gator Pinball
As the title suggests, this Game Boy title is a pinball game, but it’s a pinball game with personality. The gator-themed table has three layers, so there are loads of opportunities to keep your ball alive. However, if you lose your ball, an alligator swallows it with a funny little animation. You can also activate bonus stages where you have to hit a moving alligator with the ball. It’s a fun little time killer for a few minutes.
It Was a Fun Month for Nintendo Switch Online
With a total of six new games, there was something for everyone on Nintendo Switch Online this October. Whether you like creature-raising sims, puzzle games, action games, or even pinball, you had something to love this month. Here’s hoping that November will bring in just as much variety. Maybe Nintendo Switch Online will even add some new Genesis games for once.
