It’s time for your Tuesday morning daily devotional. In Psalm 46, the psalmist expresses joy, peace, and trust. No doubt you’ve experienced these feelings in your walk with God. Steadfast hope amidst troubling times exudes from its verses. In today’s daily devotional, this psalm teaches that God is not only your Father; He is your refuge.
The Lord is a Strong Tower
God is portrayed as your strength and refuge. A refuge is a place of safety. You can run to it when everything around you is crashing down and find protection and peace. Psalm 18:10 declares, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” In David’s psalm, he envisions God as a tower of strength. Verses 2-3 speak of steadiness even in the most turbulent times.
The sons of Korah are credited with this psalm; their distant ancestor Korah led a rebellion against Moses in the wilderness. Then the earth shockingly opened, forming a huge crevice and swallowing Korah’s household and all those guilty by association. In your daily devotional, trust God even if the earth moves, the waters are troubled, or the mountains shake. God gives you unshakable strength in Him.
He Dwells Amongst His People
Moving from chaos and turbulence, verses 4-5 turn to a place of peace and calm. The psalmist describes Jerusalem, the Holy City, where God dwells amongst His people. Peaceful streams run alongside her habitations. Because the Most High is in her midst, He defends her against her enemies. She’s immovable; her help will come speedily, at the break of day. When you trust God, your help will come if you don’t doubt.
Verse 6 says, “The heathen raged.” Your enemies will always contend with you. Satan is your foe, and he summons evil forces to fight against you. When God is for you, nobody can stand against you. For in their trouble, God “uttered his voice, the earth melted.” In this daily devotional, there’s a song entitled “He’ll do it again.” It confirms that you may not know how or when, but God will surely do it again.
Deliverance Comes From the Lord
God has warring angels and hosts of angels that do His will. The natural eye cannot see them, but the spiritual eye can. The Syrian king sent a great host against Elisha, and they surrounded his home. His servant Gehazi was terrified, but Elisha prayed that God would open his eyes to see that God’s mighty host was far more numerous than the Syrian king’s. Nations that have defied Him have been left in heaps.
Sodom, Gomorrah, the cities of Jericho and Ai, and Canaanite nations fell to Joshua’s sword. Verse 9 affirms that “He makes wars to cease,” destroying bows, spears, and chariots because there’s no army that can stand against God. In your daily devotional, Proverbs 21:31 declares, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.” Your true deliverance comes from God.
God Gives You Unshakable Strength
In Tuesday’s daily devotional, verse 10 exclaims, “Be still, and know that I am God.” There’s none higher than Him; therefore, stay calm and trust. Your adversary rages against you, but he does it fearfully because he’s a defeated foe. He knows that God is exalted in Heaven and on earth. Yet he’ll continue his wickedness until God ends him and his evil kingdom permanently. In today’s daily devotional, God is your Strong Tower; He is your mighty Refuge.
