Daily Devotional Tuesday Thoughts | August 11, 2026

It’s time for your Tuesday daily devotional. Psalm 42 reveals life can be tough. But you’re comforted because God is your Rock throughout every trial. By trusting in Him and standing on His word, your deliverance is already won. In today’s daily devotional, no matter how far your emotions swing, bring them back to center with faith in God.

God’s Goodness and Mercy

In verse 6, the psalmist feels defeated. This isn’t abnormal; it’s part of the human experience. However, believers don’t wallow in defeat. Jesus warns that you’ll face tribulations, but you’re to be of good cheer. The psalmist was displaced from Jerusalem and God’s Holy Temple. He felt depression, regret, and longing. Yet he recalls geographical regions, such as Jordan and its occupants, the Hermonites, who lived near Mt. Herman.

Considered a sacred mountain, it was a place of worship. The hill Mizar was small compared to the lofty Mt. Hermon. In your daily devotional, whenever you’re down, think of the times you felt joy in God’s presence. Overcome your gloom by remembering God’s goodness and mercy. 

Trust God’s Deliverance

Verse 7 says, “Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” The psalmist feels as though he’s drowning in grief and sorrow. The waterspouts, billows, and waves are all crashing around him. But in verse 8 he bursts into praise: “Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me.”

When your soul is anchored in the Lord, it doesn’t matter if the waves beat and the billows roll; you have a steadfast hope in God that won’t waver. The psalmist directs his prayers to “the God of my life.” He belongs to God, who’s committed to his care. In this daily devotional, instead of being swept away by fear, trust Almighty God to deliver you. 

Rock of Your Salvation

Though he feels abandoned, he continues to seek God. The enemy wants to confuse him into thinking God doesn’t care. One minute he’s distraught, and the next minute he remembers God. He’s fighting the enemy’s oppression. The devil’s job is to make you feel that God has checked out. Satan speaks fear to your mind. He shows up at your lowest point to push you over the edge.

Remember God rules and reigns, but also remember Satan is defeated and under your feet. In your daily devotional, instead of listening to the enemy, magnify the Rock of your salvation. 

Wield Your Sword

Enemies spring up daily to taunt him, asking, “Where is thy God?” Their reproach is like swords in his bones. In Psalm 64:3, David recalls his enemies who sharpened their teeth like swords. Proverbs 12:18 says there are those who speak “like the piercings of a sword.”

Swords are mortal weapons used in warfare, and Satan fights against you to pull you away from God. Therefore, don’t fall for the bait. In this daily devotional, continue to trust in the Lord and wield the sword of the Spirit in the face of the enemy.  

Command Your Soul to Trust in God

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, the psalmist charges his soul to trust in God. You’re a spirit being, and your soul and body should be subject to you. He commands his soul to trust in God, for he will forever praise Him, for it’s God who sustains him. If you haven’t done so, start speaking to your soul; bring it back to center by trusting in the Lord.
