June Lockhart, Iconic TV Matriarch, Passes Away at 100

Beloved actress and mother figure June Lockhart, best known for her roles in “Lassie” and “Lost in Space,” died on October 23, 2025, of natural causes at her Santa Monica home at the age of 100. The tragic loss of another icon, I know. It’s not fair that such great people have to die during the worst few years of our lives.

The Life and Career of June Lockhart

June Lockhart was born in 1925 in New York. Her first role was when she was 13, and she acted alongside her parents, Kathleen and Gene Lockhart. Since then, she’s played many roles throughout her 80-year career, including:

  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • “Meet me in St. Louis”
  • “A Christmas Carol”
  • “Sergeant York”
  • “Lassie”
  • “Wagon Train”
  • “Lost in Space”

And there were so many more. She’s had such a stunning career! Lockhart was nominated for two well-deserved Emmys. She also has two stars on the Hollywood ‘Walk of Fame’ and a special Tony award. So, not only was she a very kind woman, but she was also an extremely qualified and wonderful actress.

What We Know About Her Passing

According to ABC News, her spokesman, Lyle Gregory, said, “She was very happy up until the very end, reading the New York Times and LA Times every day,” he said. “It was very important to her to stay focused on the news of the day.” Her daughter and granddaughter were there with her at the time of her passing, according to People.

There will be a private service, and instead of sending flowers or other trinkets, her family is encouraging you to donate to charity. Specifically, ‘The Actors Fund,’ ‘ProPublica,’ and ‘Internation Hearing Dog, inc.’ These are great causes and should be treated as such.

She will be missed, and may her family have our deepest condolences. Rest in Peace, June Lockhart. You were loved by everyone who knew you.
