Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will return Wednesday, Dec. 30, with a new subtitle marking its next chapter: Salem Coven. AMC Global Media announced the Mayfair Witches season 3 premiere date and title at New York Comic Con, according to Deadline.

The announcement confirms the show is moving its story away from its original New Orleans setting and into Salem, Massachusetts, a location tied to America’s witch trial history.

Mayfair Witches Season 3 Release Date And Platforms

  • Title: Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven
  • Premiere date: Wednesday, Dec. 30
  • Announced at: New York Comic Con by AMC Global Media

Deadline reported the title and date reveal came directly from AMC Global Media during the convention, giving fans their first confirmed look at when the series will return.

What We Know About Salem Coven

The new season trades New Orleans for Salem, Massachusetts, according to TV Insider, with the show set to dig further into its witchcraft mythology while introducing characters and families connected to Salem’s own historical lore. TV Insider reported the season will draw on the town’s documented history with witch trials and folklore as a backdrop for the story.

New cast members joining the series include Betsy Brandt as Katherine, Michiel Huisman as Michael, Eliza Scanlen as Jessica, James Frain as Solomon and Omar Maskati as Leo, per TV Insider. Returning cast members include Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Mayfair, Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien “Sip” Grieve and Alyssa Jirrels as Moira Mayfair.

A quote tied to the season’s announcement captures the tone of Rowan’s arc: “My whole life has been nothing but pain and death for everyone I love, just to play my part in an ancient prophecy.” The line continues with a note of caution: “Nothing is set in stone.”

Why The Setting Change Matters

Moving the series to Salem represents a significant shift for a show built around the Mayfair family’s New Orleans roots in Anne Rice’s novels. The change gives the series access to a new well of folklore and historical material tied to the Salem witch trials, which TV Insider noted will factor into how the season explores witchcraft mythology.

The additions of Brandt, Huisman, Scanlen, Frain and Maskati also point to an expanded ensemble built around families connected to Salem’s history, alongside the returning core cast of Daddario, Hamlin, Chirisa and Jirrels.

What’s Next

With the Dec. 30 premiere date confirmed, attention now turns to additional casting and story details AMC may release ahead of the season’s debut. No further premiere specifics, such as time slot or episode count, have been announced beyond the date revealed at New York Comic Con.
