If you shop Whole Foods or Thrive Market and you love some noodles, check your pantry, especially if someone in your home has a peanut allergy. Fly By Jing has issued a voluntary recall of its Creamy Sesame Noodles because the product may be contaminated with peanuts. That’s not a surprise you need when you’re just going for a quick, healthy meal.

Are Your Fly By Jing Noodles Recalled?

These packets of noodles were sold nationwide through Whole Foods, Thrive Market, FlyByJing.com, and other retailers. It includes both the single packs and the 4-packs of the Creamy Sesame Noodles. It’s a shame, really, because these vegan noodles with mild seasoning sound so good. But don’t take any risks with your health. It’s not worth it. Check your packets for the UPC and the Best By Dates listed below.

What Happened With the Noodles?

This particular flavor of noodles is not supposed to have any peanuts in it. But the third-party manufacturer used equipment that also processes peanuts, so… possible contamination. When Fly By Jing found out, they stopped the product from being made, stopped selling it, and issued the recall. The good news is that no other flavors were affected.

In addition to the recall, the company has taken steps to add more safety checks and procedures to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.

Found The Recalled Noodles in Your Pantry?

If you have the risky noodles and you have a peanut allergy, don’t eat them. It’s not worth taking the risk even if you do have an EpiPen nearby. Return the packets of Creamy Sesame Noodles to the store where you purchased them so you can get a refund.

If you have questions about the recall or Fly By Jing products, you can contact the company at (866) 862-2645 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM PST) or by sending an email to recall@flybyjing.com.

Peanut Allergies are No Joke

Folks with peanut allergies may be the butt of many jokes, but for those with the worst reactions, it’s no laughing matter at all. Some people can have a reaction called anaphylaxis, which can constrict their airway, cause their lips, tongue, and throat to swell so they cannot breathe, cause their blood pressure to drop, and even cause a loss of consciousness.

A person who has a severe peanut allergy doesn’t even have to come in contact with peanuts directly. It could happen if someone else has been eating a food with peanuts and comes in contact with them. Or they could have a reaction from breathing in dust or containing peanut flour. The result can be serious, requiring hospital treatment. So, cross-contamination, like what happened with the noodles, is very serious.

How Can We Trust Our Food?

A recall can be upsetting or even scary if it affects you directly. But there is some positive news to take away from this. The system is working exactly the way it is supposed to. Fly By Jing discovered the issue and reported it. They and the FDA issued the recall, and the product was pulled. That’s exactly what is supposed to happen.
