Glee Reboot Gets Its Rachel Berry. Who Else Is Back?

Lea Michele is returning to the role that launched her career as Rachel Berry in Disney+ and Hulu's reboot of Glee, the Ryan Murphy-created musical dramedy.

Rachel Berry is heading back to McKinley High. Lea Michele will reprise the role that made her a star in the “Glee” reboot ordered by Disney+ and Hulu, according to Variety, with one source telling the outlet, “She’s in.” Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet have also hinted on social media that they’re coming back.

Michele played Rachel, the precocious, Broadway-obsessed star of the glee club, for all six seasons of the original series, which aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015. Rachel dreamed of playing Fanny Brice on Broadway, a role Michele herself famously took on in the 2022 Broadway revival of “Funny Girl.” Morris played Brittany Pierce, and Overstreet played Sam Evans. Neither has an official casting announcement yet.

What Michele And Others Have Said

Variety’s report cites more than one source. “It’s still early-ish days, but it feels good and we’re happy to get the band back together,” one source told the outlet. Representatives for Michele and Murphy did not comment.

Michele had already made her feelings clear. Weeks before the series order, she told E! News, “I love ‘Glee.’ I will always love ‘Glee.'”

Morris joked on Instagram that Brittany had been “lost in the sewers for all these years” but is “alive and well” and “back for more.” Overstreet posted on X, “Reunited and it feels so good!” Neither post came with an official statement from the network or studio, and their status remains distinct from a confirmed casting announcement.

The clearest confirmation so far belongs to Lea Michele. TheWrap separately reported that she’s in talks to return, which would make her the first original cast member officially tied to the reboot.

The Project So Far

Murphy wrote the reboot script with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who co-created the original series with him. He told Entertainment Tonight in late September, “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

The original “Glee” cast included Michele, Morris, Overstreet, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison and many others across the show’s six-season run, per TVLine.

What’s Next

Disney+ and Hulu ordered the reboot from 20th Television on Oct. 21, but no premiere date or production start date has been announced. For now, Michele’s reported return as Rachel Berry is the biggest casting news for the project.
