“House of the Dragon” Season 2 Episode 6 follows one with a great deal of carnage, and the series takes a bit of a step back. The episode begins with a tenuous agreement as the vast armies of King’s Landing, specifically those of the Lannisters, march on the Riverlands.

However, the major issue in this episode of “House of the Dragon” is the search for more dragonriders. Riding a dragon is an honor for the chosen, but as we see in this episode, the claiming of a dragon is fraught with peril. If the dragon rejects a potential rider, the dragon does so by spewing fire at them. Do you think Rhaenyra will find enough dragon riders?

One of the key developments in this episode of “House of the Dragon” is that the new regent Aemond kicks Alicent off the Small Council. If you remember, in the last episode she wanted to be the regent; now she has been removed from the seat of power. She says Aemond’s unhappiness is justified. The incident occurred when Alicent was trying to speak to Aemond in confidence, warning him not to be rash, but he butts in and kicks her off the Small Council, saying she is no longer obliged and that she can return to more domestic pursuits. Later, Aemond tells Lord Larys he wants Otto Hightower to be the hand.

The Search for Dragonriders

Rhaenyra has more dragons than riders She needs riders for Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke. As she ponders her difficult situation, she realizes that the dragons are the key to her victory because her army is small. The first volunteer is Ser Steffon Darklyn, who is excited by the opportunity, despite the peril.

Ser Steffon walks down to the dragon pit to see his new dragon, Seasmoke. He approaches the dragon with caution, because there is peril when claiming a new dragon. Unfortunately, it breathes fire on him and burns him to death.

Rhaenyra retreats to her chamber following the defeat. Mysaria (who seems to be a main information source in “House of the Dragon”), the White Worm, arrives as Rhaenyra is upset over what has happened. She wonders if there may be others in the Seven Kingdom’s. A small glimmer of hope, though, comes from Mysaria, who learns that there is disdain felt among the common folk surrounding King’s Landing. Maybe this will be enough to turn the war in their favor.

Daemon has Another Bad Dream

Daemon’s bad dream in this episode is of him and his brother. His brother vanquishes him, and then Deamon is trapped in the throne room. He pulls a knife on Ser Simon, believes he is being poisoned, and has a fight with Alys, whom he accuses of lecturing him. Then, things settle down between Alys and he, as he realizes he needs help. These bad dreams are part and parcel of “House of the Dragon” and this scene serves as an interlude in Ser Steffon’s quest to become a dragon rider.

Unrest in King’s Landing

There are real problems in King’s Landing, caused by the blockade. Anger boils over when food runs out at the market. However, a cart full of sheep is brought for Vhagar. Larys warns Aemond at the Small Council that the enemy within is more insidious, given what is currently transpiring. Rebellion against the regent is possible. This is a growing problem in “House of the Dragon.” Though Rhaenyra sends the gift of food in a boat to the smallfolk.

Final Analysis: The Riot

As Alicent and Helena are praying and lighting candles, a Knight bursts un exclaiming they must leave now. The food sent by Rhaenyra has whipped the smallfolk into a frenzy. Thet accost the queen and Helena, who ride away in a horse drawn carriage after Alicent is hit in the face by a fish. The unrest among the smallfolk is a growing problem for the royals on “House of the Dragon.”
