NBC has released the first trailer for Happy’s Place season 3, and it brings Reba McEntire back together with James Denton for the first time in two decades. The show returns Friday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on NBC, according to TVLine.
In the trailer, Denton plays JB, a handsome stranger who walks into the tavern and catches the eye of both Bobbie (McEntire) and Gabby (Melissa Peterman), as TVLine first reported in September. JB ultimately pursues Bobbie, which could strain her relationship with her ex Emmett, played by Rex Linn.
What the Happy’s Place season 3 trailer shows
The footage teases the early fallout from Bobbie and Emmett’s breakup as the former couple tries to settle into an awkward “friend zone,” according to TVLine. The trailer also previews Isabella’s (Belissa Escobedo) new speakeasy taking off, Gabby adjusting to living with her mother Val, and Steve (Pablo Castelblanco) working to stop hiding behind his OCD.
Takoda (Tokala Black Elk) also faces new challenges this season that affect how others at the bar see him, TVLine reported. The biggest new face in the trailer, though, is Denton’s JB, whose arrival stirs up tension between Bobbie, Gabby and Emmett.
Premiere date, cast and returning guest stars
“Happy’s Place” season 3 premieres Friday, Oct. 23, on NBC, where it will now lead into the Tim Daly and Téa Leoni comedy “Newlyweds,” according to TVLine.
Jane Lynch is back as a returning guest star playing Gabby’s mother Val, and Justina Machado will reprise her season 1 role as Isabella’s mother Maritza, TVLine reported.
Why fans care about this reunion
Denton first appeared opposite McEntire in 2005 on “Reba,” playing Dr. Jack Morgan, a therapist for Barbra Jean and Brock whose connection to Reba’s character sparked in the episode “Date of Mirth.” He returned in season 5’s “The Trouble With Dr. Hunky,” when Jack came back to Houston still hoping to rekindle that romance despite being married, according to TVLine.
Now, 20 years later, Denton is stepping into a new role across from McEntire, giving longtime “Reba” fans a fresh version of a pairing they remember well.
