Paramount+ renewed Tulsa King for season 5, moving production from Georgia to New York as Dwight “The General” Manfredi returns to his mafia roots, according to Deadline and Variety. The streamer confirmed the renewal ahead of the show’s season four premiere on Oct. 16.

The renewal includes cast changes. Scarlet Rose Stallone, who has played Spencer across all four seasons and is the real-life daughter of star Sylvester Stallone, has been promoted to series regular. Joining her as new series regulars are Erik Palladino (“I Play Rocky”), Glenn Fleshler (“Billions”), Anthony Skordi (“The Last Frontier”) and Nickola Shreli (“Power Book IV: Force”), per Deadline. Character details for the new additions have not been released.

Tulsa King season 5: What the renewal includes

Sylvester Stallone signed a new deal similar to his agreements for seasons 3 and 4, and that deal helped secure the season 5 pickup, Deadline reported. Production has already started in New York, replacing Atlanta as the show’s base.

Drew Brown, EVP of physical production at Paramount Television Studios, said in a statement shared by both outlets, “We are thrilled to bring fans even more of this incredible series, and to be shooting the next season of Tulsa King in New York, where Dwight Manfredi’s story will continue to evolve. We’re proud of the work we’ve done in Georgia, and it remains an important venue for us.”

Hope Knight, president, CEO and commissioner of Empire State Development, welcomed the production in a statement to both outlets: “We’re excited to welcome the cast and crew of Tulsa King to New York State for its fifth season. Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, New York has built an unmatched home for film and television, world-class talent, iconic locations, and a Film Tax Credit Program that delivers real jobs and investment for New Yorkers. Tulsa King represents the latest in a growing list of projects proudly filmed in New York.”

What the move means for fans

The New York relocation is not just a production decision, it’s tied directly to the plot. Dwight Manfredi is originally from New York before his mob associates exiled him to Tulsa, and season 5 will follow him back to that world, according to Variety. Variety also reported that improvements to New York’s state tax incentive have made it one of the more cost-friendly places to film, which factored into the relocation along with the storyline.

Variety first reported back in June that a writers’ room for a potential season 5 had opened with plans already in motion to move the show to New York, so Monday’s announcement confirms what had been in the works for months.

Background on season 4

Season 4 still has to play out first when it premieres Oct. 16. That season follows Dwight as he fights to legitimize his empire while facing corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies and a personal loss, pulling him back into the street instincts he left behind in New York.

Season 4’s cast includes Stallone alongside Martin Starr, Jay Will, Vincent Piazza, Annabella Sciorra, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Frank Grillo, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, James Russo, Kevin Pollak, Neal McDonough, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany, with Gretchen Mol joining as a series regular. Terence Winter serves as head writer and executive producer alongside Taylor Sheridan, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Thomas Kelly and Keith Cox, according to Deadline.

What’s next

Tulsa King’s fourth season premieres on Paramount+ on Oct. 16, with season 5 already filming in New York. No premiere date for season 5 has been announced yet.
