GTA 6 Launch Trailer Showing Heists, Police Chase, Vice City

Rockstar Games casually dumped the GTA 6 launch trailer on a random Thursday, and the internet immediately lost whatever was left of its mind. We got 90 seconds of Vice City chaos, which is about how long it takes to explain to your grandma why you’re excited about a video game. Did anyone else catch the ankle monitor on Lucia’s leg?

Rockstar Knows How To Build Anticipation

The studio confirmed the footage came straight from Sony’s box, which either means the game looks stunning or my launch model is preparing to sound like a jet engine. GTA 6 hits Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox, ending a 13-year gap that felt longer than waiting for “Chinese Democracy.”

That album took roughly 14 years from when the band seriously started working on it, so the comparison doesn’t quite land the way I wanted. The trailer swims in neon-soaked Vice City vibes, the same aesthetic they’ve been selling since day one. The setting is the fictional state of Leonida, not literal Miami, but the Florida energy is unmistakable.

A Quick Trip To The Keys

The trailer opens at Brian’s Marina in the Leonida Keys, where Jason is polishing a boat and presumably questioning every life choice that led him there. Then the editing goes absolutely bonkers: a shower scene, a police chase, and enough heists to make “Ocean’s Eleven” look like a church bake sale.

Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor in that shower scene, which is a hell of a detail to notice while also trying to process everything else happening. Jason also gets what looks like a collect call early on, suggesting Lucia might be calling from prison. GTA 6 clearly has a budget that could fund a small space program, though Rockstar has been cagey about the exact number.

Justice Serves Up Something Strange

Music has always been this franchise’s secret weapon, and this time electronic duo Justice cooked up a track called Flower in a Hurricane. It features Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, which sounds like someone threw darts at a Coachella lineup and decided to just go with it.

Justice also composed the game’s original score, because apparently one job wasn’t enough. I don’t know who approved that combination, but I want to buy them a drink. The song does more emotional heavy lifting than any plot hints, and I’m perfectly fine with that.

Remember That August Gameplay Dump

Back in August 2026, Rockstar gave us a 26-minute extended look that premiered on Netflix before rolling out on other platforms. It was a slow, cinematic stroll through a museum of its own brilliance, complete with scuba diving, fishing, and the ability to pet the dog.

Thursday’s trailer flips the script by ditching the exposition and just hurling quick cuts of chaos at our faces. It matches the energy of a final marketing push, the kind that says we’ve shown you enough; now give us your money. GTA 6 is less than a month away, and my wallet is already whimpering in the corner.

Why Thirteen Years Hurts So Good

For anyone who has been waiting since the last mainline entry, this trailer delivers the most concentrated burst of quick-cut action Rockstar has ever packed into 90 seconds. That’s different from the August special, which had way more footage but also more talking and walking.

The ankle monitor detail is the kind of thing that makes you realize Rockstar is cooking something specific with Lucia’s story, maybe parole restrictions that loosen as the game progresses. The peek at The Keys suggests the map still has secrets, even this late in the game. Those heist sequences give a sense of scale without explaining a single mechanic, which is both brilliant and maddening. I’ve watched it six times, and I still can’t tell you how the shooting works.

A Tiny Gripe From A Cranky Fan

My genuine bias for this whole piece is simple: I think Rockstar is terrified of showing actual gameplay because they know the internet will freeze-frame every second and complain about a shrub. The trailer is gorgeous, loud, and fun, but it also feels like a feature-length preview for a movie based on a book called “How To Avoid Showing Your Cards.”

An analyst once estimated the budget at $1 billion to $1.5 billion, but Rockstar’s head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, publicly said the $1.5 billion figure was wrong. GTA 6 will sell a gazillion copies regardless, so maybe I should just shut up and enjoy the helicopter.

What Comes After The Hype

Grand Theft Auto VI launches Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox, and then the real circus begins. People will call in sick, servers will melt, and someone will inevitably complain that the shower scene didn’t have ray-traced soap scum. The trailer did its job. It made a 13-year wait feel like a countdown to something ridiculous. Rockstar knows exactly what it’s doing, and we’re all just along for the ride.
