Gracie Abrams played both of Shakespeare’s doomed lovers on “Saturday Night Live” on Saturday, Oct. 31, changing from Juliet to Romeo between songs on the show’s Halloween episode. Both looks came from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film “Romeo + Juliet,” Billboard reported.
The episode, hosted by first-timer Inde Navarrette, was Abrams’ second as SNL‘s musical guest.
Juliet at the aquarium
Abrams opened her night as Juliet with “Hit the Wall,” the lead single and first track on her third album, “Daughter from Hell.” Her angel costume matched the one Claire Danes wears at the film’s costume party, and she started the song behind an aquarium. The setup recalled the moment Romeo and Juliet first see each other through a fish tank.
Romeo in armor sleeves
She came back later in the show as Leonardo DiCaprio’s Romeo, pairing his Hawaiian shirt with the metal sleeves from the knight costume he wears in the movie.
This time the song was “Here You Come, There You Go,” which she released days before the show. The performance gave the track its TV debut ahead of the Nov. 20 release of “Daughter from Hell (Deluxe),” which adds five songs to the original 16, Dork reported.
A bigger stage this time
Abrams made her SNL debut in December 2024 on an episode hosted by Chris Rock, performing “That’s So True” and “I Love You, I’m Sorry.”
She has since landed her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. “Daughter from Hell,” released July 17 via Interscope, opened atop the chart with 124,000 equivalent album units, according to Billboard. Her previous album, “The Secret of Us,” peaked at No. 2.
What’s next
Abrams starts The Look at My Life Tour on Dec. 2 in Denver. The 64-date arena run is scheduled to end May 28, 2027, in Barcelona, Spain, and includes four nights at London’s O2 Arena.
