Girl Meets Rock Gets Gege Akutami’s Playful Endorsement

Gege Akutami, creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, endorsed the Shonen Jump+ series Girl Meets Rock with a playful recommendation on the manga's 12th volume cover.

Girl Meets Rock has received a playful show of support from Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, on the wraparound band for its 12th volume. The contribution pairs a new illustration of bassist Rin Koyama with a message presented as an exchange between the character and Akutami.

For readers wondering whether the attention could lead to an anime, there is room for speculation. The volume promotion itself, however, concerns the manga and its guest artwork.

Akutami gives Girl Meets Rock a playful boost

Akutami’s contribution appears on the volume’s obi, the removable paper band wrapped around a book. Instead of a conventional recommendation, the message uses a character conversation, giving the promotion a humorous touch.

The report on Akutami’s illustration and message identifies Rin as the character he drew. It also describes bonus material in the book, including extra manga, changes in character designs, family background for the band members, and production anecdotes.

Shueisha’s volume 12 listing confirms an October 2, 2026 release in Japan for both the print and digital editions.

A school band story with a different rhythm

Girl Meets Rock is written by Kuwahali and illustrated by Tetsuo Ideuchi. Its premise follows Chihiro Hatono, a first-year high school student who loves Japanese rock and joins the light music club with a new guitar.

The official MANGA Plus introduction frames the story around youth and musical ambition. It offers a useful starting point for anyone arriving through Akutami’s name who wants to understand the manga on its own terms.

The contrast is part of the appeal of this endorsement. Readers familiar with Akutami through supernatural battles are being pointed toward a story about school life, music, and finding a place in a band.

Could an anime adaptation follow?

A Girl Meets Rock anime remains a possibility to discuss, rather than a confirmed outcome of Akutami’s endorsement. A school band drama could lend itself to performance scenes and a soundtrack, but that is an editorial assessment, not evidence of a production deal.

There is a confirmed promotional video to watch in the meantime. Shonen Jump+ has paired the manga with Strikeout Pitch in a joint campaign featuring an official collaboration video.

The campaign also lists a limited free-reading offer for the first three volumes from September 28 through October 11, 2026. It gives curious readers a timely way to sample the Japanese editions while keeping the anime speculation separate from the publisher’s actual announcements.

For now, the clearest takeaway is simple: Girl Meets Rock has a new volume, a guest illustration from Akutami, and another chance to reach readers beyond its regular audience.
