Lindsay Lohan brought the cult classic Mean Girls moment to life again Saturday, Oct. 3, recreating the scene that sparked Mean Girls Day. In a video posted Saturday morning to TikTok, Instagram and X, according to USA Today, Lohan and director Mark Waters performed the iconic exchange that has defined the unofficial holiday for over 20 years.

The 2004 film’s pivotal voiceover scene shows Lohan’s character Cady Heron recounting an interaction with her school crush Aaron Samuels. “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was,” she says. “It’s October 3rd,” Cady replies gleefully, a line that has become shorthand for the holiday among fans worldwide.

In the Saturday recreation, Lohan sits at a school desk while Waters orchestrates the moment. After their reenactment, both share a laugh. According to the Today show, the video drew massive engagement: more than 4 million views on TikTok, more than 2 million on X and 1.4 million likes on Instagram. Original Mean Girls costar Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels, commented on the Instagram post: “This made me miss you two so much!”

Why Oct. 3 became Mean Girls Day

The scene’s enduring popularity transformed Oct. 3 into an unofficial but widely celebrated holiday. For years, fans have recreated the moment each year, sharing memes and stills from the film across social media. Lohan has observed Mean Girls Day in the past with posts from the famous scene, but Saturday marked her first full reenactment with Waters, who also directed her in Freaky Friday.

Mean Girls, written by Tina Fey, follows Cady’s transition from homeschooling to high school life under the rule of The Plastics, the all-girl clique played by Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried. The film has remained a fixture in pop culture, spawning iconic moments beyond the October 3rd scene: “You Go Glen Coco!,” “Stop trying to make fetch happen,” and “I want my pink shirt back!” have all dominated social media timelines for decades.

What’s next for Lohan

Lohan is currently working on a new romantic film for Netflix titled Return to You, which stars her opposite Henry Golding. Waters is directing, and Lohan is also producing the film.
