MSI 2026 Match Preview – T1 Versus Team Liquid: Will T1 Dominate the Rift or Start Slow?
Two famed organisations in their respective regions kick off this year’s MSI. T1 battles against Team Liquid in the opening, aiming to start their pursuit of the championship on a high note. Only one team can qualify for the Bracket Stage, and T1 is the favorite to clinch it. Can Team Liquid surprise everyone and take down T1, who are notorious slow starters?
The Road to MSI

Both T1 and Team Liquid enter MSI as the second seeds of their regions. T1 finished second in the Regular Season and then lost to Hanwha Life Esports. They beat Gen.G Esports to qualify as the second seed. Team Liquid ended the Regular Season in third place and then shocked everyone by beating Cloud9 in the Lower Bracket Final to earn an MSI berth.

Oner Versus Josedeodo
In the previews for each team, we noted how important both Junglers will be to each team’s success. If Oner is allowed to impact the map the way that he wants, T1 will run away with the series. Josededo will need to do everything in his power to keep Oner quiet. Team Liquid’s solo lanes might have a chance to contend in lane, but the focus will inevitably be on the bot lane. The Jungler who keeps their eyes on the bot lane first may drastically change the outcome of this series.
T1 Starting Slow
In almost every international event, T1 starts slow and ramps up throughout. In the previous two MSI tournaments, their first best-of-five series went to five games against weaker opposition. Team Liquid may have the advantage of playing against T1. What is in T1’s favor is that the tournament is in South Korea. They have not had to travel, meaning they should be warmer than usual.
However, two of their players, Faker and Keria, were busy with the Asian Games team for most of the break. That has given T1 roughly a week to get accustomed to the patch. Team Liquid should look to strike early and fast to get an advantage in the series. Once T1 ramps up, they might leave Team Liquid in the dust.
Leaning on Solo Lanes
T1’s solo laners are not known for winning the lane consistently. Both are more known for their excellent teamfight, and no one can doubt Faker’s clutch factor. Team Liquid may be able to exploit the weaker laning phases. Giving both Morgan and Quid favorable matchups could be the key.
When 100 Thieves nearly surprised T1 at the World Championship, Quid dominated Faker in the laning phase. Their laners will need shutout performances. However, the worry will still be on the bot lane. With Yeon struggling to reach former levels, he is the weak point for Team Liquid. T1 wants to play through the bot lane as much as possible. If Peyz and Keria are allowed to have their way, the series might be over before it begins.
Prediction
T1 3-1 Team Liquid
Knowing T1’s slow start and their tendencies to have an errant game in a series, Team Liquid might pick up a game. However, anything beyond that will be a win for the LCS second seed. If they approach the series with the same draft principles as they did in the LCS, they will not stand a chance. Giving Peyz and Keria the bot lane duo they want is a mistake. Comfort will not be enough for Yeon and CoreJJ to contend with one of the most lethal bot lanes. If T1 hit their stride from the off, Team Liquid might be swept aside.
Three Wins Needed

At a minimum, both teams will need three wins to qualify for the Bracket Stage. There is only one spot available, meaning every match counts. The other two teams in the Play-Ins are Karmine Corp and Deep Cross Gaming. They will be T1 and Team Liquid’s next opponents, depending on the series results.
