Mexican Ninja: Become The Unstoppable Savior of Nuevo Tokyo – Releasing Aug 20, 2026
Mexican Ninja is a beat ‘em up-style, chaos-filled roguelike in a 2.5D art style. Perhaps not quite as chaotic as musou games like the Dynasty Warriors franchise, but the 2.5D art style will keep players on their toes to find the right positioning to take on the Narkuzas. In Mexican Ninja, players will take on hordes of bad guys who might throw things, punch super hard, or belly-bump the player into oblivion if they aren’t careful.
While a demo is currently available for Mexican Ninja, the game releases on Aug. 20, 2026, at approximately 10 a.m. EST, priced at $16.99 and discounted for the first two weeks! After I played the demo for over an hour, I was granted an early key to play the game before its release to get to know it a little better.
Mexican Ninja: The Storyline Premise
The game takes place in Nuevo Tokyo, a mesh of Mexico and Japan after an extreme explosion filled with fire, betrayal, and power. The Narcos, or drug trafficking organizations of Mexico, have joined teams with the Yakuza and formed the Narkuzas. The five Narkuza clan heads are the new ruling class who dominate Nuevo Tokyo through ruthless gangs and henchmen.
The player must learn to parry the onslaught of enemy attacks and chain attacks to create combos that can result in aerial juggling for some amazing combos. Each run can be different based on what upgrades are gathered to create a unique roguelike game with amusing Mexican-Japanese Jutsus, adding a touch of flair. Developer Madbricks characterizes death as a means to the end, forcing the player to adapt, grow, and build a better Mexican Ninja.
The Demo: Mexican Ninja – Test Your Skill
Originally, I played the demo twice because I narrowly managed to defeat the demo boss. What struck me the most about it is the game’s humor, which ought to come with a laugh track. For a fast-paced roguelike, it has a lot of quips and amusements written into the game’s story, making it worth the time to read the dialog prompts when they appear.
Something to be said for how the enemies seem to ambush players from both sides with some interesting obstacles. There were a few times when finding the right spot to hide or attack from became difficult due to artefacts on the screen, either from being attacked, things falling from the sky, explosions, or the player attacking. Figuring out the enemies’ attack types and styles will become integral to mastering the art of parrying to forge a path to glory, or being sucked into the trash shoot.
The Narkuzas are the law, and while some citizens are preparing to bring the city back under control, the player is the unlikely hero who may or may not have the cojones to finish the job. Don’t get discouraged if death comes swiftly; each time death arrives, our hero ends up in a trash truck. This is where upgrades come into play, as the Way of the Donkey is the skill tree to build the strongest Mexican Ninja.
Editor’s Final Thoughts: Find Your Inner Cabrón

The game ran quite smoothly with very little in the way of bugs or issues, though some items felt like they were inaccessible with an invisible barrier. When the team said mashing buttons would result in the Mexican Ninja dying, this was not remotely a joking statement. I put over an hour of playtime into the demo before getting the game key to unlock the release.
I spent over 2 hours in the game, exploring the world and realizing the demo boss? She was easy compared to the first boss in the game. I don’t want to spoil it, but players will want to focus on completing quests from side characters along the way to unlock outfits to give them an edge. I barely made it through the Crack Panda, then got obliterated by the tech bros.
Overall, I give Mexican Ninja a 9.5/10 for comedy, 10/10 for absolute chaos, and an 8.5/10 for making me come back for more beatings. Anyone interested in learning more, there will be a Discord launch party before the launch, where they will host a Q&A session with the masters behind the game and hit the GO LIVE button on stream! With the release going to XBOX, PlayStation, and Steam, there are many ways to play, but will you be El Chosen Juan?
