Witcher 3 Remastered transmog: 2 epic quests for great looks
Witcher 3 Remastered transmog is finally here, giving you a way to change how your gear looks without losing its stats. The transmog system, officially called Reforge, lets you make armor and weapons match the appearance of other equipment you’ve already collected. But unlocking it means reaching about level 24 and finishing two quests with tough fights along the way.
The remaster launched Sept. 29 as a free upgrade for existing owners of the game, Game Rant notes, and Reforge is one of its headline additions. Here’s how to unlock it.
How to unlock Witcher 3 Remastered transmog for armor
Armor reforging comes from Yoana, a master armorer in Crow’s Perch, Velen. To earn her services, you’ll need to finish the quest Master Armorers, which is recommended for level 24, according to IGN. Head to the Castle Village signpost in Crow’s Perch and talk to Fergus Graem, the smith standing beside her. Tell him you want a master armorer to kick off the quest.
Master Armorers quest walkthrough
The Master Armorers quest line pits you against two big monsters, an Ice Troll and an Archgriffin. Follow each objective in your quest log. Those two fights are the main hurdles, but both are manageable at level 24 if you prepare the right oils, potions and gear.
When the quest wraps up, Yoana will reforge your armor from her spot in Crow’s Perch.
How to unlock Reforge for weapons
Weapon reforging belongs to Éibhear Hattori, the master swordsmith in the Novigrad docks. Complete his quest, Of Swords and Dumplings, which is also recommended for level 24. Visit Hattori at his home and let him know you’re after a skilled swordsmith. Once the quest is done, he’ll reforge your weapons.
Don’t bother looking for the service elsewhere. Lafargue, the master smith in Toussaint, doesn’t offer reforging, IGN notes.
How to use Witcher 3 Remastered transmog
After you’ve unlocked Yoana or Hattori, talk to them and open their crafting menu. Reforge now sits at the end of that menu, VGC reports. Go to Yoana for armor and Hattori for weapons.
From there, pick the item you want to change from the category tabs on the left, then choose the look you want from the list underneath. The catch: Only gear you’ve already picked up shows as an option. If you want your armor to resemble the Grandmaster Feline set from the Blood and Wine expansion, for example, you’ll have to earn that set first. Confirm the change and pay the Crowns fee, which IGN says depends on how much you alter the item.
Choosing your new appearance
The Reforge menu lists every appearance you own for that item type. Browse each category to find the look you want before you spend any Crowns. Witcher 3 Remastered transmog only changes appearance. Your gear’s stats, resistances and bonuses stay the same.
Witcher 3 Remastered transmog limitations
Witcher 3 Remastered transmog only works in person. You have to return to Yoana for armor or Hattori for weapons, so the feature isn’t available while you’re out exploring or in the middle of a quest, VGC notes. You also can’t cross item types: GamesRadar+ points out that trousers can’t be turned into shoes, for example.
Both smiths stay put, so plan your Reforge sessions for when you’re passing through Crow’s Perch or Novigrad. Build up Crowns through looting, selling gear and finishing contracts before you tackle a full wardrobe overhaul.
