Crimson Desert DLC delayed to Oct. 29 in surprising setback
Pearl Abyss has delayed the first paid Crimson Desert DLC, Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown, by two weeks, pushing the expansion from Oct. 15 to Oct. 29. The studio said it needs more development time to deliver “a more polished and stable gameplay experience.”
“We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologise for the longer wait,” Pearl Abyss said in its Sept. 30 announcement, which was reproduced by GamingBible. “We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can.”

What the delayed Crimson Desert DLC adds
The expansion introduces seafaring and home building to Crimson Desert’s world of Pywel. Players will command ships across open waters, dive underwater to hunt for treasure and explore ruins, and take on new enemies and bosses. The new region is an archipelago made up of several islands, GamingBible reported. The DLC also expands the game’s story with new quests and plotlines.
“New stories unfold across Pywel — from an ominous presence in the desert and a dangerous political conflict to a journey beyond time and an ancient secret beneath the waves,” reads the official description. The story follows Kliff, Oongka and Damiane as each charts a separate path.
Players can also rent and build homes and other properties, and a new relationship system lets them form closer bonds with the people of Pywel.
Why the delay matters
Crimson Desert launched March 19 and sold 5 million copies in its first 26 days, Dot Esports reported. It has since topped 6 million copies. Pearl Abyss revealed Charting the Unknown during Sony’s Sept. 3 State of Play showcase, positioning it as the game’s first major paid expansion. At the time, the studio set an Oct. 15 date, which fell on Oct. 16 in some regions, Notebookcheck reported.
A two-week slip is small for a studio that has kept up a fast update pace since launch. Pearl Abyss added significant content within the game’s first month, Kotaku noted. By August, it had released 17 patches and content updates, and it renamed the game Crimson Desert Enhanced to bundle them together with reworked story beats, more voice acting and better combat.
A crowded Oct. 29 for the Crimson Desert DLC
The delay also puts the expansion on the same day as Phantom Blade Zero, S-Game’s kung fu action game, which was itself pushed to Oct. 29. Wccftech called the timing a “harder choice” for players who want both but have limited time and money.
Some details are still unknown. Pearl Abyss hasn’t said how many islands the expansion adds or how deep the upgraded housing mode goes, and Notebookcheck noted that the trailer showed Kliff in a relationship without explaining how far the new system goes.
What’s next
The Crimson Desert DLC now arrives Oct. 29 for $24.99. Pearl Abyss’ statement closed by telling players it looks forward to “seeing you in Pywel on October 29.” Players who preorder get the Charter’s Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka and the Charter’s Light Diving Set for Damiane, according to Notebookcheck.
