‘Re:Zero’ season 4 finale wraps with thrilling 45-minute run
A decade after “Re:Zero” first hit screens, the story has closed out its fourth season with its biggest episode yet. The “Re:Zero” season 4 finale, Episode 19, aired Sept. 30 in Japan as an extended 45-minute special, according to Anime Corner. Studio White Fox animates the series.
That episode also marks a bigger number for the franchise as a whole: Episode 85 overall, counting every season since the series began in 2016. Titled “Shaula / Hero,” it capped the season’s second cour, which has been a hit with fans. Season 4 Part 1 won 19 of Anime Corner’s Spring 2026 reader awards, and Episode 18 placed second in the outlet’s weekly poll.
What happens in the “Re:Zero” season 4 finale
The episode preview centered on Emilia, who finds a black monolith marked with six handprints on the tower’s top floor, a detail that’s sure to send longtime readers of Tappei Nagatsuki’s light novels into speculation mode. Things escalate fast from there. According to the official episode synopsis, “Volcanica, having regained consciousness, addresses her as Satella, the Witch of Envy, and attacks her once again.”
That single line carries a lot of weight for anyone who’s followed Emilia’s arc. The tangled question of her connection to Satella has haunted the character since the earliest seasons, and having Volcanica confront her directly with that identity, mid-battle, signaled that the finale wouldn’t ease viewers out gently.
Masahiro Yokotani wrote the script for the “Re:Zero” season 4 finale, and Masahiro Shinohara handled the storyboards. Shinohara also shares episode director duties with Kazue Otsuki and Yusuke Maruyama.
A season built for a decade of fans
“Re:Zero” is based on light novels by Nagatsuki, with illustrations by Shinichirou Otsuka, and the anime adaptation has stayed with White Fox since that first 2016 season. Ten years in, the franchise isn’t slowing down: it has announced 10 major projects tied to its anniversary, with the “Re:Zero” season 4 finale acting as one piece of that larger celebration.
The finale rollout also came with a music update. A new lyric video looks back at seasons 1 through 4 set to “Recollect,” the season 4 opening theme by Konomi Suzuki and Ashnikko, giving fans another piece of the soundtrack to revisit.
Where to watch “Re:Zero” season 4
Season 4 premiered in Japan April 8, according to AniTrendz, and Episode 19 closed out its second cour.
The season aired in two parts, according to Wikipedia: the 11-episode Loss Arc ran April 8 to June 17, and the eight-episode Recapture Arc began Aug. 12 and ended with the finale. Together, the two halves adapt Arc 6 of Nagatsuki’s light novels, covering volumes 21-25.
Crunchyroll streams the season outside Japan, as it has for previous seasons of the White Fox adaptation. International viewers can stream the “Re:Zero” season 4 finale there, along with every earlier episode of the series for anyone who needs a refresher.
How the cast marked the “Re:Zero” season 4 finale
The official “Re:Zero” X account released a Rem epilogue visual to commemorate the finale, Anime Corner reported. Yusuke Kobayashi, who voices Subaru, thanked fans for watching to the end and summed up the arc’s mission to the Pleiades Watchtower this way: “Some things were recovered, while others were lost in return,” according to Anime Corner’s translation.
Inori Minase, the voice of Rem, said she was “truly overwhelmed with happiness that Rem was there waiting at the end of it,” a strong hint for anyone who hasn’t watched yet.
What comes next
No season 5 had been announced as of Oct. 1, and the remaining pieces of the franchise’s 10th anniversary slate have yet to be detailed. Fans catching up can also revisit how the series fared at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
