HBO Max will be producing a gift for fans, big and small, who fell in love with the Harry Potter universe. Slated for May 19, 2026, the podcast will really dig into what made it such an amazing series. While many may have spent their formative years on discussion forums talking about the series, this will be the first major HBO Podcast exclusively dedicated to the series. It promises to be quite a rabbit hole with laughter and tears alike.

Warner Bros Discovery: Big Promises

It was announced on May 5, 2026, that Warner Bros Discovery was launching a podcast in celebration of the anniversary of the movie release, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” marking 25 years since the first big-screen appearance of the wondrous wizarding world. The podcast is said to dive into the emotional depth of the movies, the imaginative world-building that brought Hogsmeade to life, and the filmmaking brilliance that defined an entire generation. The biggest promise yet was inviting fans to delve back into the wizarding world full of magic with a fresh perspective, lots of laughter, and smart insights.

The podcast is said to premiere with a special two-episode launch, promising juicy weekly updates after. With only two episodes per film, they will try to pack as much insight, whimsy, and magic into each 60-minute episode. There will be a video version exclusively on HBO Max that fans can stream in the US, letting fans really join in on the action. For those who prefer just the audio, there is also an audio version of the podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

According to the Warner Bros Discovery press release, the host is an acclaimed film critic and broadcaster, Rhianna Dhillon. Expected to offer a thoughtful rewatch experience while balancing film recaps alongside discussion of moments that matter. Dhillion will be revisiting sequences and themes while dissecting the standout moments and performances that really made it shine. Something that may have old fans on the edge of their seats will be a regular segment dubbed Magic Makers, where behind-the-scenes special guests will reveal what it took to bring the magic to life. Who wouldn’t want the craftsman’s unique insights on how they brought the mythical realm of Harry Potter into existence?

Starting with the iconic music that almost all nostalgia-ridden fans can place, already setting the expectations high as the trailer greets us with a wand. Our host, Dhillon, starts by asking whether the audience has ever tried to explain Horcrux mechanics or the true function of a rubber duck; the cheekiness is already audible. Many might even agree with her that the Slytherin house is misunderstood. While the Harry Potter movies may have begun releasing 25 years ago, she’s right that the world hasn’t stopped discussing the magical world.

As she mentions that Harry Potter fans like her love dissecting each and every detail, it cuts into a humorous clip perfectly encapsulating the depth of fandom mania as a young Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint, says, “She needs to sort out her priorities.” If that isn’t a hint as to the laughter and nostalgia yet to come, perhaps the more in-depth breakdowns are more the audience’s speed. There’s a little bit of everything for all fans of the series.

She introduces herself as a lifelong Potter obsessive, a film critic, and the host for the upcoming Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast.

Our Hostess: Rhianna Dhillon

Diving into the history of our host, Dhillon, she isn’t new to the role of Host for podcasts. She has worked as a film critic for 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1, but was also a host of the 2021 BAFTA Awards, where they talked about who she is. The dazzling host was said to be on The Film Show, a British film review that ended in 2018. With her film buff status as a film critic, she was already affiliated with the BAFTAs as she hosted The Guru Podcast, the academy’s official podcast.

Dhillon also co-hosted with her boyfriend, another film reviewer of the horror genre, Mike Muncer. Those who want to see a bit of her work can find Amazon Prime’s podcast, Wrap Party, another podcast she hosted. She seems to have a wide range of interests, as she even hosted a BBC podcast, Seriously, taking stories from authors and building a visual world from them.

What brought home her self-acclaimed lifelong Potter obsessive title was something she wrote back in 2020 that was featured on the Harry Potter website. In it, she writes about what terrified her most in the whole Potter-verse. The most horrifying villain in all of Harry Potter is Dolores Umbridge. She details some things about Umbridge that genuinely make the frumpy pink-robed nightmare a true villain, frills and all. It has been commonly said throughout the fandom that Umbridge is the nightmare no one wants, and 3 magical words will make your skin crawl. Detention with Umbridge.

It looks like May 19, 2026, will be aghast with delightful insights from someone who knows what true villainy looks like.
