Daily Devotional for Men: Courage (Oct. 1, 2026)

“Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” – Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)

What This Verse Means

The psalmist writes from a place of real struggle. He opens Psalm 27 by declaring, “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” Yet by verse 14, he is exhorting himself and others to wait and be courageous.

This isn’t false optimism. It’s a hard-won conviction that God is trustworthy even when circumstances look dark.

To “be of good courage” means to possess an inner quality that lets you face danger, difficulty, and uncertainty without being controlled by fear. Instead, you meet those challenges with calmness, boldness, confidence, and trust, according to GotQuestions. The word translated “wait” in the original language means “trust.” True courage flows from trusting God, not from pretending things aren’t hard.

Living It Today

Men today face pressures that demand real courage. A job loss. A difficult conversation with your kids.

A setback in your health. A relationship fracture. A decision that will disappoint people you care about.

These moments don’t announce themselves as grand and noble—they just show up, and you have to respond.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s moving forward with your assignment from God even when you’re afraid. It’s raising your kids with conviction when culture pushes back.

It’s working with integrity when nobody’s watching. It’s telling the truth when a lie would be easier. It’s staying faithful in your marriage, your job, your word.

God doesn’t ask you how you’re wired before He calls you, according to Desiring God. He doesn’t check whether you feel ready. He shows up, grabs you by the lapels, and tells you what needs to be done.

Then He promises His presence. That’s where courage lives—not in your confidence in yourself, but in your confidence that God is with you and will not leave you or forsake you.

t the absence of fear. It’s moving forward with your assignment from God even when you’re afraid. It’s raising your kids with conviction when culture pushes back.

God doesn’t ask you how you’re wired before He calls you.

Reflection Questions

  • Where in your life right now does God seem to be calling you to be courageous? What makes that hard?
  • When have you experienced God’s strength in a moment when you were afraid?
  • Who in your life needs to see your courage—your kids, your coworkers, your community?

A Prayer for Today

Lord, today I choose to trust You. I see the challenges ahead—the decisions that scare me, the moments where I want to turn back. But You have called me to this work, to this life, to this assignment.

Strengthen my heart. Help me believe that You go with me and will never leave me. I ask for boldness to speak truth, to act with integrity, and to do what is right even when it is hard.

When doubt whispers that I’m not ready, remind me that You don’t call the equipped—You equip the called. You are my light and my salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
