Avalanches tour: 6 exciting 2027 Australia shows revealed

Robbie Chater, left, and touring vocalists perform with the Avalanches at Sydney City Limits in 2018, years before the Avalanches tour of Australia in 2027

The Avalanches will play six shows in Australia in February and March 2027, wrapping up with a Sunday, March 7, concert at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Billboard reported. The Avalanches tour starts Feb. 27 at Perth Festival.

The trek is a homecoming for the Melbourne electronic music group led by Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi and Andy Szekeres. After two Perth shows, the band moves on to Adelaide before finishing with east coast dates in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, according to Billboard.

Avalanches tour dates and tickets

General tickets go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 9 a.m. local time, and an artist presale opens earlier, Billboard reported. The second Perth date is already listed as sold out. Here is the full Avalanches tour schedule, per Billboard:

  • Saturday, Feb. 27: Perth Festival, East Perth Power Station, Perth
  • Sunday, Feb. 28: Perth Festival, East Perth Power Station, Perth (sold out)
  • Thursday, March 4: Hindley St Music Hall, Adelaide
  • Friday, March 5: Live at the Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne
  • Saturday, March 6: On The Banks, Brisbane
  • Sunday, March 7: Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Sydney

Ben Marshall, head of contemporary music at the Sydney Opera House, framed the Forecourt booking as a long time coming. “After hosting them at Vivid LIVE in the Studio in 2011 and on the Northern Broadwalk in 2017, it’s a thrill to finally hand them the keys to the Sydney Opera House Forecourt,” Marshall said, according to Billboard.

Marshall added that the band has “continually reconstructed the DNA of electronic music with a generous cast of brilliantly curated, visionary guests” and predicted the show will be “an extraordinary summer moment – and a hell of a lot of fun.”

HAAi, an Australian-born electronic artist now based in London, will open the three east coast shows. Her new 10-track release, “DIGITiSE,” arrives Oct. 9 on Mute Records.

What it means for fans

The Avalanches tour lands a few months after the group’s fourth studio album, “No Bad Memories,” which Modular Recordings releases Oct. 16. According to Billboard, Chater said the project grew out of “rhythmic experiments using the sonic leftovers and hallmarks of the technologies we grew up with.” Sounds captured from hard drives, old computer hardware and other outdated gear ended up woven into the record.

Previously released songs from the album include “Every Single Weekend” with Jamie xx, “Blue Shadows” with Karen O and “Far Away” with John Glacier and Khadija Al Hanafi, Billboard reported.

In a statement shared with Billboard, the band said: “We’re crazy excited to be back on home soil playing these shows in Australia. We can’t wait to be back in a room with people and seeing where the night takes us. We’ve got a lot of new music we’re excited to play, alongside some old favorites, and we can’t wait to spend a few nights making some beautiful noise and memories together.”

That means fans can expect “No Bad Memories” material next to older songs, including tracks from the group’s 2000 debut, “Since I Left You.” Built from thousands of vinyl samples, that album won Best New Artist – Album and Best Dance Release at the 2001 ARIA Music Awards, according to Rolling Stone Australia. The follow-up, 2016’s “Wildflower,” debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and 2020’s “We Will Always Love You” won the Australian Music Prize, Billboard noted.

Background: Europe and U.K. dates first

The band still has a run of shows in continental Europe and the U.K. to finish before the Avalanches tour of Australia begins. That leg includes a sold-out Nov. 27 concert at the Roundhouse in London, Billboard reported.
