Freddie the Fix movie: Ninth Circle’s huge 1st screen win
A Freddie the Fix movie is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, which is adapting the horror-noir comic series from “The Boys” creator Garth Ennis into a feature film, according to Deadline. Lawrence Lamont, who directed the Sony Pictures comedy “One of Them Days,” is attached to direct.
What was announced about the Freddie the Fix movie
The project marks the first screen adaptation for Ninth Circle, the creator-owned horror imprint at Image Comics that Ennis co-founded, Deadline reported. “Freddie the Fix” was the imprint’s first release when Ninth Circle launched in December 2024. Artist Mike Perkins drew the book, which sold out and was well received by critics, according to Deadline.
Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster will produce for K Period Media, joined by Kenya Barris for Khalabo Ink Society, according to Deadline. The script comes from Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell. Executive producers include Ennis, Jeremy Allen, Lamont, Adam Glass, Michael Bogner and David Stone.
Steward was a producer on the best picture nominee “Manchester by the Sea,” and Barris created the ABC sitcom “black-ish.”
What the story follows
The title character makes problems go away for Hollywood’s supernatural power players, Deadline reported. In the comic, Freddie is a Black Englishman working in Los Angeles, and the first issue sends him to investigate the death of the Boogeyman, according to a Pop Heist review of the debut issue.
As the imprint’s opening title, the comic set the template Ninth Circle has followed since: horror stories that are complete in themselves and can be read without any other book, according to Deadline.
Ninth Circle’s co-founders are Ennis, Ram V, Marguerite Bennett, Joe Pruett and Glass. Steward backs the imprint as its lead investor, and her company works with it on certain books, according to Deadline.
What it means for fans
The project gives Amazon MGM another Ennis property. His “The Boys” became one of the streamer’s signature franchises before wrapping with its final season this year. For fans of Ninth Circle’s comics, the Freddie the Fix movie is the imprint’s first real test of translating its self-contained horror stories into film. Lamont’s involvement also expands his range beyond studio comedy into horror-noir territory following “One of Them Days.” The 2025 buddy comedy, starring Keke Palmer and SZA, was his feature directing debut.
