Kane Parsons’ “Backrooms” Clipping Audiences Into An Frightening Interdimensional Maze in May 2026
After morphing about the internet for years, we’re finally getting a major motion picture of one of the most popular Creepypastas of recent years: The Backrooms! “Backrooms” will be “clipping” into theaters this summer. What makes the suspenseful trailer even better is that the movie is hand-crafted by THE Kane Parsons himself, from the director and writer’s set. The portal is scheduled to appear on May 29, 2026.
“Backrooms” Trailer Breakdown
The trailer opens in a supermarket, where Clark, a store associate, discovers a hidden seam leading to another dimension in an old storage room. He becomes obsessed with exploring this world of yellow-papered walls, buzzing fluorescent lights, and damp beige carpeting. Every corner of the endless rooms contains objects that are out of place, in pieces, or sunken into surfaces.
Clark records his journey on a camcorder and invites others to join him in this maze-like subspace. He soon realizes he isn’t the first to enter and, as the situation worsens, becomes trapped with whoever or whatever is inside.
When Clark is reported missing, his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline, is worried that his obsession has led him to become trapped inside this dimension. She investigates the supermarket’s storage room to find the portal that he was always talking about, and cautiously walks through. She’s stunned to find that it’s a real place, but soon finds herself in a world more dangerous than Clark made it out to be. The trailer shows her running through gaps and spaces covered in blood, before we get bits of Clark’s recordings.
Kane Pixel’s “Backrooms (Found Footage)”

In 2022, a YouTube channel under the name Kane Pixels uploaded a found footage short film that took the internet by storm called “The Backrooms (Found Footage).” The short film is about a cameraman “clipping” into the ground and falling into the Backrooms, a dimensional space of rooms and hallways styled with yellow walls, buzzing overhead lights, and dark beige carpet. This uneasy world is endless, and harbors an abnormal entity that doesn’t seem to like the guy’s presence in its domain.
This short film is what launched the career of the very person who’ll be releasing “Backrooms” on the silver screen: Mr. Kane Parsons. His short film plunged the internet into this abyss and has developed a lore that morphs and stretches into video and gaming content. The filmmaker went on to create a series of follow-up shorts that have expanded the Backrooms concept. A fun fact about the Backrooms is that it originated from a Creepypasta picture post back in 2019 on 4chan with a brief description of it.
Director Parsons Leading The Charge

It’s comforting to know that Hollywood recognized this talented artist and let him take the reins in the director’s and writer’s chair. It becomes another attachment to the short films, once again adding to the Backrooms ever-growing lore. This also means that the OG creator will hopefully be able to do more with a big budget and top-notch actors! I personally love that he’s there because it means that the material won’t be perverted by someone who wanted to make this a quick cash grab on a popular story.
Nurturning Parsons’ project is A24 Studio, an independent company renowned for developing up-and-coming talent and producing critically acclaimed films. Working alongside him in the writing department is Will Soodik, the writer behind “Ash vs. Evil Dead” and “Westworld.” Accompanying the project are actors Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave,” “Children of Men”) as Clark and Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person In The World,” “Presumed Innocent”) as Dr. Mary Kline.
From the trailer, both leading actors have the skills to give us characters that will have us sitting on the edge of our seats. Other actors included in the film are Mark Duplass (“Creep”), Finn Bennett (“True Detective”), Lukita Maxwell (“Shrinking”), and other talented cast members.
The Story is In Good Hands
As a fan of “The Backrooms” short films, it does my heart good to know that the creator of those videos is getting a chance to work his magic on a bigger version of the Creepypasta. With more leg room, a great set of stars, and a fanbase oozing with inky anticipation and support, I believe this movie will give us what we expect and more. I’m hoping to see some answers to the questions the short films left unsaid, and see where the path lies ahead within the never-ending hall.
