D23 Reveals Exciting ‘Frozen 3’ Teaser, Announces ‘Zootopia 3,’ ‘Incredibles 3,’ and More
D23 is called the “ultimate fan event” for Disney fans. Fans gather at this convention to meet Disney celebrities and receive news about upcoming Disney, Marvel, and “Star Wars” projects. It is being held from August 14th to the 16th in Anaheim, California, and already, there have been plenty of exciting peeks at upcoming movies, including the teaser for “Frozen 3.”
“Frozen 3” Teaser Trailer Revealed at D23
As Disney’s schedule for the event shows, D23 has a slew of panels, including anniversary celebrations for movies like “Beauty and the Beast” and “Enchanted,” along with sneak peeks at upcoming Disney, Marvel, and “Star Wars” projects. D23 provided first looks at various films, but perhaps the most exciting part was the teaser for “Frozen 3.”
The “Frozen 3” trailer was quick to leak online, specifically by a YouTube user named “Dizney.” The trailer opens with what looks like a butterfly made of ice flying over the kingdom of Arendelle. Elsa, wearing a gorgeous sleeveless pink dress, freezes the butterfly in an ice rock. In come Anna, Kristoff, Olaf the talking snowman, and Sven the reindeer. The ice rock in Elsa’s hand glows, bringing down light from the sky that forms into a bridge over the ocean.
Anna is annoyed that her wedding to Kristoff was interrupted, and Olaf is thrilled that Anna tossed her bouquet at him, which means he’ll marry the first person he sees. Ice flowers glow around the gang, indicating that, of course, they’ll be going on another adventure. Then suddenly, the ice rock shatters and cuts Elsa across the face before a whole cloud of dark butterflies come flying in and a wicked hand reaches out of the cloud, crushing the ice butterfly. Shown from behind, in comes a wicked woman who seems to have ice powers like Elsa, saying she’s been longing to meet Elsa and Anna.
Yes, it looks like “Frozen 3” will have a real villain. The original “Frozen” only had a twist villain in the form of Prince Hans, and “Frozen 2” had no reall villain at all, but this time around, we might get to see an evil being with ice powers. This could lead to all sorts of action that pits Elsa’s ice powers against this new villain’s powers. If done well, “Frozen 3” could be the most action-packed entry in the trilogy.
More Announcements at D23
This year’s D23 could be called the convention of “3” movies, since in addition to”Frozen 3,” Disney also announced that there will be a third “Zootopia” movie. After “Zootopia 2” was such a huge hit, it should come as no surprise, especially since “Zootopia 2” contained an end-credit scene that hinted at a third movie.
Disney also announced a third “Incredibles” movie. “The Incredibles” remains one of the most beloved movies in the Pixar canon with its mix of superhero action and family dynamics, and as such, it will be welcome to return to that universe once again. In addition, another beloved Pixar film is getting a sequel with “Coco 2.”
Not all the announcements were for sequels. Disney revealed their next original animated movie, “Clay,” which is set for release in 2028. Pixar revealed that their next original movie will be titled “Ghost Market,” which already sounds enticing just from the title. The beloved Disney Junior series “Bluey” is getting a theatrical movie next year, and D23 also revealed a teaser, showcasing that the movie will be animated in 3-D instead of the series’ 2-D animation. This could be a controversial choice, but “Bluey” has so much charm that the animation style shouldn’t matter.
There will also be an anime series based on the Kingdom Hearts video games, along with a miniseries about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald predates Mickey Mouse in Disney history, so that should be fascinating to watch. On the live-action side, the live-action remake of “Tangled” will be released on March 31, 2028, “Lilo and Stitch 2” is coming on May 26, 2028, and “The Princess Diaries 3” is in production.
D23 Showcased Plenty of Excitement
No matter who you are, it’s hard for D23 not to sweep you up in Disney magic. While it can be argued that they are making too many sequels, the worlds also have plenty of potential for further expansion, and the “Frozen 3” teaser especially looks like it has a lot of promise.
