Kelly Reilly has offered the clearest look yet at the “Dutton Ranch” season 2 filming date, telling The Hollywood Reporter in early July that production on the “Yellowstone” spinoff is slated to begin in early 2027. Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton and executive produces the series, said the writing process would get underway well before cameras roll.
“We’re slated to start early 2027 to film,” Reilly said. “But the room starts up pretty quick. I think we’re going to be very much involved in the room, so the next sort of six months is all about writing it.”
Filming window narrows to early 2027
Reilly’s comments set the first public timeline for when “Dutton Ranch” will return to production. Since then, more specific dates have surfaced. Deadline reported a Jan. 15 start. Paramount+ has not confirmed any date.
With the writers’ room expected to open over the summer, the months leading up to production have been devoted to scripts. Reilly said she expects the cast to have a voice in shaping the season during that stretch. The show also has a new showrunner, with Benjamin Cavell taking over from creator Chad Feehan for season 2.

“Dutton Ranch” arrived with significant momentum. In its first week, 12.9 million viewers worldwide tuned in, making it the largest original series debut Paramount+ has ever had. On Paramount Network, the May 15 two-episode premiere night pulled 2.9 million total viewers, a cable series launch that hadn’t been topped since 2023.
The premiere telecast alone reached 1.85 million viewers, ranking No. 1 in cable entertainment that night among both total viewers and adults 18-49. Critics responded well too, with Paramount reporting an 88% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes shortly after launch.

Cameras are expected to roll in early 2027, with the writers’ room continuing its work until then. Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date for season 2 or shared how long filming and post-production will take.
