Diablo: Unbound, the first officially licensed board game based on Blizzard Entertainment’s action role-playing franchise, was announced Oct. 21, 2026, by Glass Cannon Unplugged. The cooperative “dungeon battler” is designed for one to four players, solo play included, and its crowdfunding campaign is scheduled to open on Gamefound in the first quarter of 2027, according to IGN and the studio.
The announcement gives fans of the long-running series a new way to experience its demon-slaying combat away from a screen, translating the franchise’s dungeon crawling into a physical format with miniatures and hex-based combat.
What Was Announced
Players choose from four classes series veterans will recognize: the Barbarian, Rogue, Sorceress and Paladin, according to Glass Cannon Unplugged, with more classes possible through stretch goals and future expansions. From there, players pick a dungeon, a set of enemies and a boss, then work together to fight through hordes of monsters.
The campaign spans three acts, each built from three dungeon levels that end in a boss fight. Along the way, players hunt for loot by opening chests, completing side quests, taking down elite monsters and building kill streaks, mirroring the core gameplay loop that has defined the Diablo franchise since its debut. Between dungeons, a town phase lets players upgrade skills, manage loot and respec their builds. Monster families pulled from across the series, including the Khazra and the Undead, fill out the bestiary, and combat plays out on a hex grid rather than a traditional square board.
Glass Cannon Unplugged CEO Jakub Wiśniewski explained the label in the studio’s announcement: “You don’t crawl through dungeons. You battle your way down.”
Components shown so far include miniatures, player boards and character system elements. A single dungeon level runs about 60 to 90 minutes, and a full act takes roughly 3 to 4.5 hours, with a save system for splitting it across sessions. Pricing has not been announced.
What It Means For Fans
For tabletop gamers who already know the Diablo universe, Unbound offers a cooperative format built around the same class fantasy and loot-hunting appeal that drew millions to the video games. Combat mixes deck building and dice rolling on that hex grid, which points to a tactical layer beyond simple luck, though full rules haven’t been released yet. Finishing the campaign doesn’t end the hunt, either: Torment mode lets players build their own combinations of dungeons, monster families and bosses.
Unbound isn’t the only unusual way fans are exploring Sanctuary right now. One modder recently turned Diablo 2: Resurrected into a first-person Diablo 2 VR experience, though Blizzard’s file checker crashes it after about a minute.
Background And Context
Glass Cannon Unplugged has a track record of turning popular video game properties into tabletop experiences, including Frostpunk, Apex Legends, Dying Light and Don’t Starve. The studio is also no stranger to Sanctuary. It co-produced Diablo: The Roleplaying Game with Genuine Entertainment, giving it hands-on experience with the franchise before tackling its first Diablo board game.
Attendees at Spiel Essen in Essen, Germany, can try a playable demo throughout the Oct. 22-25 convention. Glass Cannon Unplugged’s Gates of Sanctuary booth sits in Hall 1, booth C611, with four demo tables, giving fans a first hands-on look well ahead of the crowdfunding launch.
What’s Next
The Gamefound campaign for Diablo: Unbound is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
