Daily Devotional Tuesday Thoughts | June 23, 2026

A person is reading and discussin Scripture.

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotional. Have you ever been excited to do something for the Lord? Maybe you’ve always wanted to work with your church’s youth group, and the Lord gave you a major project. Then it seemed torrential storms came against you. That was the enemy fighting your efforts to obey God. In this daily devotional, stand firm against the enemy and fight the good fight of faith.

Permission From The King

Nehemiah had permission from King Artaxerxes to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. He possessed authorization letters to show the governors beyond the river that he’d been delegated for this work. Accompanied by a large entourage, including captains of the king’s host and horsemen, Nehemiah reached the other side of the river and gave the governors the letters. The king’s endorsement should’ve been evident to everyone who met this official company.

However, two men disapproved: “When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.”  In your daily devotional, the enemy will use people to oppose the work God called you to do.

Time to Do God’s Work

Nehemiah reached Jerusalem, and on the third day of his arrival, by night, he took a few men and began surveying the damage. The gates were destroyed by fire, and the walls were completely crumbled.  Seeing the rubble and assessing the work needed to restore it, he went before the priests, nobles, and rulers. Nehemiah declared that it was time to do the work of the Lord and rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so they would no longer be disgraced.

In this daily devotional, Jerusalem without walls is like your spirit open to evil advancement: “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” But God’s word is your protection.

Called to Do This Assignment

After Nehemiah listed the damages, he encouraged them to work: ” Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build.” Nehemiah testified that God called him to do this assignment. In your daily devotional, what has God called you to do? Like Nehemiah, you’re to do it with all your might.

Don’t be Intimidated

God appoints human vessels to do great things. When God calls you, it may involve groundwork or preparation. God directed Nehemiah to go before the rulers, and they were on board with the project. Everything seemed smooth; then the enemy tried to bring fear.

In verse 19, opposition arose: “But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us.” In your daily devotional, don’t be intimidated by the enemy’s disparagement. God is your Protector.

You Wield the Sword of the Spirit

In Friday’s daily devotional, the enemy loves to spread fear. He wants you to second-guess God’s calling and abandon it. But when God calls you to do something, He does the work through you as you yield to Him in obedience.  Don’t be afraid, for the battle is the Lord’s. He will fight for you. In today’s daily devotional, the enemy is full of derision. However, you wield the sword of the Spirit, so you’re equipped for the fight!
