Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. For believers, fellowship is essential in your walk with the Lord. Fellowship is spending time in His presence in prayer, worship, meditation, reading the Word, or gathering with other believers. When you fellowship with Jesus, you get guidance, strength, and a deeper relationship with the Master. In today’s daily devotional, there’s no substitute for fellowshipping with Christ.
Don’t Be Distracted
In Luke 10, Jesus and His disciples enter Bethany. Here, a woman named Martha brings them into her home and begins showing them hospitality. Siblings Lazarus, Mary, and Martha were friends of Jesus, and they lived only two miles outside of Jerusalem. He’d often stop and fellowship with them as He traveled there.
Serving guests and making them feel welcome were important to hosts in those days. Martha busied herself making a meal fit for the Master. In your daily devotional, before you become focused on working for the Lord, make sure you’re not distracted from sitting at His feet.
Greater One in the Midst
In verse 39, it says that Martha’s sister Mary, with the other disciples, gathered around Jesus to hear His words. However, verse 40 reveals some tension: “But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to Jesus and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me.” Martha had taken on the responsibility of serving the guests.
She wanted everything to be perfect for Jesus, but she was more concerned about performance than spiritual enlightenment. In this daily devotional, you must know when to lay aside protocol when One greater is in your midst. Don’t rank anything higher than fellowship with the Master.
Fellowshipping with Jesus

Martha was stressed out, trying to prepare a meal so they could dine and be refreshed after their journey. Maybe she had gathered water to wash their feet or a scented oil to anoint their heads. No one noticed she was serving solo because everyone was focused on Jesus. She decided to involve the Lord by asking if he cared that she was serving alone. She interrupted His teaching to ask that He tell Mary to help her. In your daily devotional, Martha was busy working when everyone else was listening to Jesus.
The Living Word
Jesus answered Martha, but not in the way she expected. Rather than rebuke her, He corrects her lovingly: “Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things.” Jesus calls her name twice, indicating that this is a teachable moment and Martha shouldn’t overlook a serious principle. Martha was stressed about serving food when the Miracle Worker who’d fed multitudes was in her midst.
Unlike the scribes and Pharisees, His words held power and authority, and those who listened to Him without distraction could be forever changed by His teaching. In your daily devotional, Jesus is the Living Word, and when He speaks, you should listen.
You Must Choose That Good Part
In Monday’s devotional, Jesus continues His dialogue with Martha in verse 42: “But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Martha had two choices: fellowship with Jesus or busy herself with work. Jesus tells her only one is profitable. Mary had chosen “that good part,” which was to fellowship with Jesus, and it wouldn’t be taken from her. In this daily devotional, choose that good part. Don’t take on a Martha spirit; you can’t work for the Master without first fellowshipping with Him.
